January 2004
My husband and I are looking for a place to take a second honeymoon in January. My main concern is the weather. Have read temps in the Caribbean can be 65-85. Thinking of St. John, BVI, T & C. Possibly even Mexico (but not much activity on that board). Can anyone with winter travel experience please advise? AM wanting beautiful beaches for relaxing and snorkeling. Good resturants, clubs not necessary. I realize opinions vary but the guide books are so general. I don't want to get there and be disappointed in the weather. Thanks in advance.

You really need to go to the Southern Caribbean to get consistently warm temps you would want in January.
Barbados is our favorite. It's usually 70-75 at night and 85 - 90 days. Water temps year-round are about 86 degrees.
Beautiful beaches, some snorkeling, absolutely fabulous restaurants, 166 square miles so it's large enough to explore if you feel inclined. If you want more info, write me directly at [email protected]

We travel to St John the last week of January to 1st week of February. Temps are always in the 80's except for a "fluke" front in 1997. Temp one NIGHT went down to 68F. The nights will drop into the 70's.
As far as beaches, snorkeling and resturants, St John is your place. St John has a number of beautiful beaches each with their own ambiance. Resturants range from the elegant/intimate (Asolare & Chateau Bordeux) to casual (Lime Inn & Fish Trap) to stop on the way (Joe's Barbeque). You can even have a very romantic meal prepared by a chef in your villa.
St John is a very laid back, relaxing island.

FYI: We stayed in Provo in mid-Jan '02, and the weather was perfect. Sunny, mid-80's every day. Water temp was a little chilly if you stayed in too long, but I HATE the cold, and was able to snorkel at least an hour every day just in a swimsuit. Beautiful beach, good snorkeling. I really don't think weather will be a problem in T&C.
