We always stay in one of the upper level jr. suites at COCO LA PALM, which IMHO, is on the best part of Negril's famous beach. It has a restaurant on site for breakfast and a beach bar/ grill for lunch,( although BEST OF THE WEST, just across the street is much better and cheaper) but I would definitely NOT do dinner there. Much better places on the cliffs, esp. our faves like CHICKEN LAVISH, THREE DIVES, and ROCKHOUSE. Only warning about COCO is that depending on the time of year, it can be overrun with kids. You can try the more upscale IDLE AWHILE, which is just next door, but not sure it will be within your price range. Same is true of CHARELA INN, although I've seen lots of kids during holiday times there, too.

In Negril I personally love "the Cliffs" best. If you are willing to give up being beach front you can look at places like Tensing Pen, Catcha Falling Star, and lots of others. There are a short taxi ride to get to the beach though.

My first trip to Negril was last fall. We split our trip between a small property on the beach, and, one on the cliffs.

If we ever return, I'd probably do the same again.

The place on the beach was Bar-B-Barn. It was ok, included breakfast, only a few feet from the water. But, no pool, which didn't bother us in the least.

On the Cliffs, we stayed at Banana Shout. Small cabana, just a few feet from the stairs down the cliffs. Screened in on three sides, also had a fridge, maybe even a cook top, I don't recall. We loved it, might not be for everyone. No breakfast, no a/c.

If I wanted to spend more money, I would probably stay at Catcha falling Star or Tensing Pen.
