I stayed at the Jalousie Hilton for my honeymoon last Novemebr and absolutely LOVED it! My husband and I had an amazing time. Cannot wait to go back. The staff, the food everything was excellent. The spa was very nice too. Not the best massage I've had, but having it while on the beach was wonderful!

Stayed at Jalousie for my Anniversary
about 7 years ago. I had been at Cap many times prior to this trip. We had a large plunge pool suite, with a wonderful view of the Pitons, and beach. The spa was great, even enjoyed the golf course But, I missed the wonderful beach at Cap, its restaurants,
and the Anguillians. Jalousie is lush, and isolated. Cap is for the beach lover, every room is beachfront, no shuttle to catch, no hill to hike up, better dining. We spoke to a honeymoon couple last year who combined both, they liked CJ much better!

I cannot comment on Jalousie - have never been.
I will say that once you go to Cap, you will compare every vacation to it. It spoils you for anything else. I have been to many islands in the caribbean before I went to Cap, and I'm glad I did. If I had gone to Cap first, I would not go anyplace else. If you love a beautiful white sand beach with vibrant hues of blue steps from your room, a magnificent view, big, clean, comfortable rooms, friendly service, amazing food and the nicest people you will ever meet anywhere - then Cap is for you.
I have been to caribbean resorts where you have to hike/bike/schlep to the beach. Been to upscale AI's and islands that you need 2 planes and a boat to get to. Anguilla seems to call me back. My favorite!

I was at Jalousie a few months ago, just for the record, our room was kept spotless, no bugs of any kind. It was a beautiful place.

and for FODOR'S REVIEWS go to it! I would never stay at a hotel where it has anything remotely bug infested! How nasty!!!maybe it's your preference island girl..

Like I stated above, I have never been to Jalousie.

But I can tell you that I have never been to a cleaner resort than Cap Juluca. Some people say that the rooms at Cap are sparse and cold, but there is a reason for that - being on an island, its easier to keep rooms cleaner designed the way Caps are. I never saw a bug - anywhere. The rooms are SCRUBBED for you 2X per day.

Our last visit after checking out, my husband realized he left a shirt behind. We were having lunch at Georges so he walked back to our villa only to find a large group of people spraying the walls with cleaner, some on their hands & knees scrubbing the floor, the bed was pulled away from the wall, etc..They really really clean before another guest comes into the room, and it shows!

I checked the reviews and failed to find any that mentioned bugs at the Jalousie. What are you talking about? If you're going to post something so negative, please show us all exactly where to find it. It is NOT in the hotel review section of Fodors.

Uh, Calypso, I think you're confused because the reviews on the Fodors site of Jalousie are all good. By the way, bugs in the room aren't my preference. I've stayed there, you haven't.

We just returned from the Jalousie Hilton last month and I cannot say enough good things about it. Our room was immaculate. I don't know what the business about the bugs is--there wasn't a bug in sight. I have not been to Cap Jaluca, but the Jalousie was incredible!

I have to agree with Calypso. If you peruse Fodors under hotel section, take a look about the bugs. She is just stating what she read. I prefer Tahiti myself..not so "touristy" like you sound Island!

No two people seem to like the exact same combination of elements in a travel destination.
I can't bring myself to go to Tahiti because I know my tastes well enough to know that I'd get bored after 3 days, I'd dislike the lack of access to a range of good restaurants (at somewhat reasonable prices), and I'm just not a fan of the beach bungalows which lack the kind of luxury amenities I enjoy.
I've had great trips to Australia and New Zealand but I think I may never visit Tahiti, despite some people's raves.

As for the definition of "touristy", that's relative. To many dedicated adventure travellers (people who like to backpack in the Andes or cruise to Antarctica) Tahiti would qualify as too touristy.
Some people manage to enjoy places like Atlantic City and Myrtle Beach which I consider unattractiveley touristy.
To each his/her own.

Tahiti is NOT tourist! nor Figi.
If you want quiet, people go there. If you want touristy..people flock to St. Lucia..not much to do ther eeither frm what I hear!LOL but you are right...to each his own!!

If, there was a case of bugs at the Jalousie Hilton, it would have to be one of the most extreme in odd cases. As for the three different villas we have stayed in at the Jalousie and others that we checked into.(We saw the staff in action preparing the cottages for the new guests) The greatest of care, cleaning goes into the preparation before a guest arrives. Then there is the twice daily maid(cleaning)turndown service takes place. Much attention to detail goes into the their daily routine. From morning to night. Then the daily pool cleaning man.

What IS all of this talk about bugs at Jalousie? Stayed there in a villa with a plunge pool, and never saw a single bug in the villa, or anywhere else. We loved the place. Sometimes you have to take what people post on these sites w/ a grain of salt. I would never reject a hotel I was interested in on the basis of one posting. That person may have had an unusual experience, or may have his own agenda with the hotel.
Just one gal's experiene, but the Jalousie was clean, bugfree, and wonderful. I recommend it.

I have to tell you a cute but somewhat sad, TRUE story, of people with an agenda!

There was a young girl that had booked a two week dream honeymoon at Club St.Lucia. Club St.Lucia is an AL that usually sells for the very reasonable prices of $799 to $999p/p with air for 7 nights. She said they had been saving for this vacation for so long and were so so excited.
Anyway she said they were really beach lovers and asked for the must do's on the island.
I suggested that they spend an afternoon on the Beach at the Jalousie Hilton as it is one of the most dramatic of locations on the island with some great swimming and good snorkeling.
Well, they did and she came back with the most outrageous negative comments about the Jalousie, this, that, and the other thing she said. It was so off the wall, I couldn't believe it? I did question some of her comments and I had felt terrible that she felt that way.
To my surprise and her honesty she came back with the most heartfelt post. She admitted and said that after spending the afternoon at the Jalousie, that she was so, so jealous and envious of anyone that was able to stay at the resort, that she was trying to find anything that she could to ease and justify in her mind that it wasn't the resort she could have stayed at. She said it was the most incredible, sexy, intimate, romantic place that she could have ever imagined. She said she just cried when they had to leave to return to their resort.
I felt so bad for her, but admired that she had the honesty going for her to take back what she had said!

And it makes me think of one comment I've always wanted to post but never have.
Most people want to defend their decisions by reporting how wonderfully their ________ (insert: car/vacation/hotel/trinket purchase etc) turned out to be.
How many people research a trip then come back and report how foolish or naive or wrong they were for choosing whatever they chose?
It's human nature to defend your choices, I think.

As such, everyone's biases must be considered when opinions are being weighed (including mine, of course).

And then if I was calypso12 and had a time share in Grand Caymans, I'd probably say it was much better and nicer there also.
But one thing I hope is after reading calypso12's airline pillow problem. I sure hope she/he brings their own mattresses to there time share. Cause ewww! eee! baby! can you imagine the dust mites and such that would be in those mattresses. Ewww! eee! ick! I have no doubt she/he brings their own pillows. LOL

All right...time to chime back in, since we started this post.

First, Sailor is correct, we've been to the Jalousie and it is HEAVEN! And what's with all this ridiculous ranting about bugs and such ..... I don't get it! We kept our villa completely open most of the time for the ocean breezes and can't say we had any problems. If you go to a tropical rain forest and don't expect to see a few insects and a few geckos (which we love), then your expectations are out of whack with reality.

But back to my point. We've also been to Anguilla, but did NOT stay at Cap. Not to 'dis anybody here, but the question asked was about the properties themselves - no beach, culture, or food quality issues please - and from people who have actually stayed at both.

So if there is anyone out there who has actually stayed at both properties, and can refrain from telling me about their friend's sister's aunt's next door neighbor's experience on some other website ... then please breathe some fresh air into this post.
