officially illegal, but tolerated in some of the resorts. ie not on public beaches. Some resorts, such as sandals, do not promote topless.

The woman posted a legitimate question. Why is it that whenever "nude" or "topless" is mentioned on this forum, it always brings out the perverts and "holier than thou" types. You people need to get a life.

Funny...women get so much hassle about going topless. And men only want the perky types to do it. Yet there's never any postings about women getting digusted with fat men who have bigger, saggier breasts than my grandmother. Personally, I feel that if a man can't pass the pencil test, then he shouldn't be allowed to go topless either!

Jill -
BTW, if you ever get to Miami Beach, there is a section that allows topless sunbathing. It's filled with Europeans and Miami natives are sophisticated enough not to be shocked or act like horny high school boys.

Jill,

My wife and I are going to St. Lucia for a couple of weeks next March. This will be a first-time visit (we've only sailed past St. Lucia on a couple of Windstar cruises previously), so I can't comment on St. Lucia in general. However, I try to book as much privacy as I can, regardless of where we go. On St. Lucia, I booked a Villa Suite at the Jalousie. Very private. My wife stays suited, but I prefer to shed the suit when possible (even though all I use are the Solar Tan Thru suits (about an SPF6 (at LifestylesDirect.com)).

So, in general, book private accommodations, and you can do what you want.

A good place for topless/nude sunbathing...my wife and I go to Acapulco every Thanksgiving for 11-12 days (we're leaving Friday!) and always stay at the Las Brisas in the same Junior Suite at the top of the mountain. The Royal Beach Club rooms at the top (#464 to #479) are relatively private, as are most of the Junior Suites (except for #501 and #502). This is an excellent time of year for Acapulco. High season doesn't start until Dec. 20, so the room rates are $100/night or so lower, and all of the best restaurants (most are rooftop) have availability.

Another good place...the island of Moorea in French Polynesia. My wife and I spent two weeks there last April and stayed in an overwater bungalow at the new Sheraton Moorea. We upgraded to a Horizon Bungalow (as far from the beach as possible). Each has a sunning deck (partially covered), plus steps down to a platform with stairs into the lagoon and a fresh water shower. Superb. Very relaxed. People of all shapes and sizes and nationalities in various states of dress and undress. Wonderful. Hated to leave.

But will now. Have fun!
