Is the area surrounding the Ritz Carlton in Jamaica safe?

We are thinking of staying at the Ritz in Jamaica with our children ages 4 years and 10 months. Are there any safety issues we should be aware of???

Certainly not at the Ritz-Carlton, where you'll be ensconced in a virutal cocoon of safety. If you want a wider range of activities and amenities, you should also take a look at Half Moon, which is near the Ritz-Carlton.

The Ritz is outside MoBay, pretty much a self-contained resort and is popular with families with kids (as is Half Moon, which is larger and more spread out). Both are upscale -- with Ritz
offering more luxe services (make sure
you check their packages). Ritz does have a small beach however.

I've stayed at the RC, the Half Moon, and the Wyndham Rose Hall (they are all right near each other) and would choose the RC.

Yes, it is safe. Most hotels are self contained resorts.

I'd be more wary about the 10 month old cocerning sun block and food.

Have you checked the family specific resorts?

Not much around the RC at all...so if you go out you will likely be in a taxi with a local driver. There are areas of MoBay to avoid (right downtown at night, some squatter settlements in the hiolls nearby), but there isn't much to see or do there anyway.

We travel all over with our kids (by rental car or with a driver) and find it quite safe, dare i say, FUN

There's an upscale shopping center with restaurants that you can walk to from the Ritz. Or the Ritz will shuttle you there. The area seemed very safe, it's all resorts (Half Moon, Ritz, Wyndham) in that area.

We took our kids to the Ritz. Not much of a beach... We went to the Ritz's beach club down the road but it certainly wasn't as convenient as staying at a resort with an attached beach.

It's safe. It's a self-contained resort. We went for a long weekend. If we had stayed any longer, we would have been out exploring more of Jamiaca as we would have been bored with any more time at the Ritz.
