Is Puerto Rico worth the trip?

Try El Conquistador. I went on a snorkel trip near Fajardo and our boat stopped at the COnquistador's marina to pick up passengers. They said it was beautiful and the resort offered different excursions. It owns a private off-shore island with sailboats, snorkeling, etc. The only catch is that it is a big resort and it is not cheap.

We spent a week in PR about 5 years ago. I enjoyed it. There was a lot to do - historic site seeing, rain jungle, casinos, good restaurants, etc. Also loved Fajardo. We went sailing on a boat called Erin Go Baugh - the people were lovely and the trip was wonderful.

I also recommend St. John for the types of things you love to do. The water is awesome too. Going to St. Croix in December and hope to enjoy it as much.

Theresa

Lis, Puerto Rico is one of the hippest islands. There are many beautiful resorts, museums, galleries, casinos, beaches, shopping, fine restaurants and fantastic nightlife. It also has the USA's largest rainforest which is called El Yunque. My favorite beach is Luquillo. Contact their Travel & Tourism board for more info. My family and I go to Puerto Rico almost every winter, and we all love it.

Thanks everyone!

It sounds like Puerto Rico seems like a good place to try. Are there anymore suggestions for resorts that have a nice beach...possibily within walking distance to other resorts (so we can walk when we go out to dinner).

Thanks a million.

Julie -

From what I understand, it can be really beautiful when outside of old San Juan area.

I also understand they play alot of Rickie Martin type music.

My husband and I have been to Aruba and are looking for a new destination that is somewhat Americanized (want the safety of good hospitals, just in case), where you can drink the water, etc.

Enjoy your trip wherever you go.

The El Con is a nice hotel, but the beach doesn't sound like what you are looking for. The beaches in Isla Verde are nice and you can walk from one resort to the next.

The problem with Fajardo is the taxi fare to get there. It cost us $100 to go from the El San Juan to the El Con. Seems they have to come back empty and they don't like that.

Be sure to go to Old San Juan and walk thru the forts and visit the shops. The streets are so cool...Bacardi's was an ok thing to do, the rain forest was probably ok but it rained so hard we couldn't get out of the bus.

We took a cat out to snorkel and it was adequate. Nothing spectacular, but we had a good time anyhow.
