Is Aruba a Mistake in Summer

Hi Fodorites: I need some advice. Is it a mistake to go to Aruba in July or August. We are thinking about it for a summer vacation. We have never been to the Carribean. It sounds like the only place you can visit in the summer, weather wise.
It will be my husband and I with our two girls, 16 and 14.

We went in late July/early August a few years ago and it was fine. We went there since it was out of the hurricane belt, so to speak. The weather was fine and we had a great time!

Stephanie

we did the kayaking tour and while on De Palm Island we were talking to the guides who said that August (especially when other islands are having bad weather) that the wind on Aruba is less and then it can be uncomfortably hot.

If you do visit - I recommend the kayaking tour it was a lot of fun (I expected to ache the next day - but I didn't) and it was the best snorkeling we did on the island.

Have fun - I rave about it everytime so why not on this post? The buses are wonderful - clean, inexpensive and used by tourists and local alike. We met some really nice people while waiting for the bus.

Don't rely on cabs, try the buses.

Its no mistake at all. I also wouldn't say its the only place you can visit in the summer in the Carib. either. Are you referring to temps, the very low probability of hurricanes or something else? Check out this site. I am not the sller or affilitated with them. However scroll down a bit and you will find a detailed weather report by month. Cheers, Larry

We've been to Aruba 7 times. 5 of which were during July. It was wonderful. Do not hesitate to go. It's one of our favorite Islands.

My husband and I went to Aruba at the beginning of August last summer and had no problems. We also chose it because of the small chance of hurricanes.
We had an awesome time! It was very hot, but the winds were nice. Be sure to rent a car. It is a small island so you can see the entire island.
I can't wait to go back!
THe DePalm jeep tour was ok; the speaker system did not work most of the trip so it was not much of a tour. The DePalm snorkelling tour was great. It is all you can drink, plus they give you a pretty good lunch.
Try the Dutch Pancake House in Oranjastad. It is wonderful!!

Summer is a great time to be in Aruba. There will be children at many of the resorts especially LaCabana which I highly recommend as long as you don't do the all inclusive.
