Iberostar or Ocean Blue?
OK...I think we have narrowed our summer family vacation in Punta Cana down to the Iberostars or the Ocean Blue Golf & Beach Resort.
I would appreciate any comments you can offer regarding these two resorts. Is the location of either better? My understanding is that the Iberostars are on Bavaro Beach and the Ocean Blue is on Arena Gorda Beach. Where are these beaches in relation to eachother? Is one or the other more convenient to "things to do"P Are excursion pick-ups offered at both locales?
Also very important to us is the food...please comment on the food choices (restaurants and buffets).

From one 'massachusettsmama' to another: Hola ! Just chiming in to offer another good resource for PC trip reviews and tips. Check out
debbiesdominicantravel.com
We've gotten lots of helpful info from Debbie's site, as well as from TA.
I also am not clear on the distinction between Bavaro and Arena Gorda, since many people (& maps I've seen) use the term 'Bavaro' to refer to the entire PC resort strip.
Regarding the hotel choices you mention, we haven't stayed at either. (our current favorite is Majestic Colonial), but I'm pretty sure there are no other resorts between the Iberostar complex and Ocean Blue (though I don't know the actual distance between them). Given that the location is pretty much the same, you can then look at other factors for making your decision, such as number of rooms, size of resort, atmosphere for families, etc. This is where you can use TA and Debbie's tips to match up against your family's preferences.
As far as the beach is concerned, having stayed at the Riu--just west of Iberostar--and LTI--just east of Ocean Blue--I can vouch for the gorgeous, powdery white sand in this area. If you are a beach person, I think you'll be blown away by Bavaro.
Have fun planning your trip, whichever resort you choose !

Hi again, mm. To answer your question about Majestic Colonial: we chose it on the recommendation of tvl agent. One thing we liked was the fact that it is not one of the enormous, sprawling resorts where you have to catch a tram just to go to dinner. Secondly, MC appeared to attract more adults than families (at least, this was the case the week we were there). Third, the suites were a step above the places we had previously tried in PC.
We received top-notch service, and found the food to be above average for an AI. Nor sure how much stock you put in Trip Advisor, but they are currently rating the Majestic as #1 among PC resorts.
Since you are planning a family vacation, your wish-list is different from ours...but for us, MC was just right. And to be clear, I'm not saying that they don't cater to kids or have amenities for them; it's just that there did not seem to be many children around during the week we were there. (it was not a typical school break week).
Check it out if you're interested. I'll try to answer any other MC questions you have. You'll have an incredible time in PC, no matter which resort you choose.
