St. Barts & Anguilla are two very different islands. Perhaps this will help:
Anguilla - flat, scrubby, arid island with 35 spectacular white sand beaches and 80+ restaurants. Go here if you want your day centered around the beach and eating. There's not much else to do on the island. Anguilla is a short 20 minute ferry ride from SXM. Unless there is a major ground swell (which doesn't happen often) the ride between islands is usually smooth.
St. Bart's - hilly, somewhat arid island with nice beaches, more gourmet restaurants (much better choices than Anguilla) that you can count and a European flair (think mini Paris of the Caribbean). Sophisticated shopping, all types of water sports, some hiking, many scenic overlooks. The ferry between islands takes about an hour and because you cross open water it is often rough (they don't call the ferry the "vomit comet" for nothing) - if you suffer from motion sickness you'd be wise to take seasick pills before your trip. The alternative is to fly.
Thanks for the info. How long is the ferry ride to St. Barts?
You have 5 choices.
1 and 2)
The catamaran ferry from Marigot to St Barts takes about 75 minutes - slightly less if leaving from Oyster Pond.
3)
The ferry from Pelican Marina takes around 45 minutes.
4)
The ferry from Bobby's Marina in Philipsburg takes about the same time (I think).
5)
The flight is quicker, but the landing in St Barts is - shall we say - something of 'an experience' !
Whatever form of transport you choose you will need to check, in advance, for up to date departure times, and remember to take PASSPORTS with you. Photo ID will not suffice.
