How to get to Taylor Bay Beach?

Hi TCI friends!
Well, I am finally here in Providenciales! It is beautiful, but lots of rain this week. We drove down to Chalk Sound today and tried to figure out how to get to Taylor Bay Beach. There are no signs and just lots of private roads to (very exquisite!) homes and villas. Does anyone know how to find the beach and the best way to get there? Is it a public beach?

Thanks,
Jean

Take South Dock Road to Chalk Sound Dr then turn left on Ocean Point Drive. About 300 yards from the intersection you'll see a small unpaved pathway (on your right) that leads to Taylor Bay.

Oh, all beaches in the T&C's are "public" but not all the sand on any given beach constitutes the "public portion".

I don't know the legal delineation in the T&C's but it's probably similar to other islands in the Caribbean. Usually, the public portion of a beach is a narrow strip of sand beginning at the water's edge and extending landward to an imaginary line which runs parallel to the water know as the "Average High Water Mark". It's usually found somewhere between 5' and 10' above the water's edge. On some islands the AHWM is defined as being 6' from the water's edge. For all practical purposes if you stay below the vegetation on Taylor's Beach you won't be encroaching on anyone's private property.

Those sound like the directions to Sapodilla Bay.

For Taylor Bay you need to past Las Brisas on your right, last the Miami Vice villas on your left and then after about half a mile you see a road entrance on the left that says Ocean Estates Private. The entrance isn't private but the land that the sign on is private, I think it's there just to put people off. Turn left and drive down this road for around 200 yards.

If you drive as far as the Silly Creek Estates sign you have gone too far down Chalk Sound Road and turn round.

On the left there is a huge contemporary villa being built. Park up opposite this, next to the tennis courts, there is a path that goes down to the beach. The builders will tell you where it is.

The beach took a battering during the recent hurricane; many of the casaurina trees are burnt and there is beach erosion.

Sorry the sign is Ocean Point Estates (Private) and the road you turn left down is Ocean Point Drive. Don't turn down Sunset Bay drive which is the next left and goes round in a circle.

BC - you are right, it's been a while since I've been to Taylor but I thought Taylor was the next beach over (west) from Sapodilla. If so, my directions will take you to the eastern end of Taylor. If I'm wrong then sorry for misleading OP.

I know roams around, goodness know why the beaches aren't sign posted.

Especially Sapodilla which is so close to the road.

There is an easy way to Taylor's into the west end. Park at the entrance to Silly Cay Estates on Chalk sound Road and just walk down the dirt road for some distance.

It's always useful to use google map satellite image to work out where you are heading.

Thank you so much RoamsAround and BritishCaicos! After driving around a lot yesterday, I am quite familiar with the landmarks you've mentioned (especially Miami Vice), we couldn't figure out how to get down to the actual beach. It was very rainy yesterday anyway, so going to try again today with hopefully better weather.

Sopadilla Bay would have been fine too, couldn't figure out how to get down there either!

Will let you know later today how it went. Much appreciated - Jean

BritishCaicos - I looked at Google Earth when I returned to the resort (didn't want to turn on data roaming on my US cellular plan on my phone in the car) and was working off the assumption we'd see a sign somewhere. I can see now on the map where your suggestions are. Just as well, weather looks better today!

Thank you again!

Sapodilla is really easy.

Go just past the entrance of La Brisas and there is a large empty "car park " just off the road on the right.

Park here are just over the road is a large brown Morrocan style villa. There's a small path to the left of the property : around fifty yards and your on the beach.

Taylor ; the easy way if you are mobile is the entrance via Silly Creek to the west. If you park at the east side there are lots if tow away signs which are off putting.

Keep at it.

Good luck!

Actually there is a good signal down there.

Access Google maps at your hotel and leave the page open over Taylor bay.

When you get there your phone will triangulate the signal and give your position. Use the map that you left open.

Easy.

Hi guys, we found it and spent a lovely morning at Taylor Bay Beach. Your helpful advice made it easy to find. Had a WONDERFUL lunch at Las Brisas, then took some beautiful photos of Chalk Sound, and even saw a little of Sopadilla Bay. It was worth the trouble to find it. When we were leaving, a couple approached us asking if we knew how to get to Taylor Bay and we led them right to it! Thank you again, I'm so happy I got to enjoy that lovely place.

Just back from Turks and Caicos as well. We loved Taylor Bay. We went onto one of those streets with the fancy villas and just asked the landscaping guys how to get to the beach. it is sort of behind the tennis courts. For anyone else looking for it, ask the gardeners!
