Yes we are planning to go for two weeks starting from Dec 14th.<BR>We are comparing Varadaro Vs. Purto Plata!<BR>We are looking for a Hot spot!

I haven't been to Cuba before ( we are going there this x-mas), but I was a Puerto Plata two years ago. They both would have the same temperatures, however the beaches would be nicer in Cuba. White sand, etc.

Amazed,<BR><BR>What the hell is your problem???!!!!<BR><BR>For your information asswipe, Cuba does tend to be cooler in December/January...I'm sure hesham knows you don't need ski boots...he was asking just HOW cold it got!!!<BR><BR>I was in Cuba in January of last year and one definately needed a sweater at night. So in answer to your question Hesham, you can definately swim in the beach but bring a light sweater/jacket for the evenings. <BR><BR>Amazed, do us all a favour and sign off. You're just too damn smart for any of us.

Actually, I can tell you from my personal experience plus the experiences of a few friends that Xmas can be QUITE cold on Veradero. It gets the same weather patterns as Florida and you know that Florida sometimes even gets snow!!! (Cuba is only 70 miles off the Florida coast!!). Anyway, one Xmas, we didn't sit on the beach (far too cool and windy) except for one day when you could tolerate it with a beach towel over top. We told our friends who went several years later to perhaps pick a different location but it was far cheaper in Cuba so they went at Xmas anyway and had 5 days of straight rain!!! If you want comparable beaches and similar pricing to Cuba, go to Punta Cana in the DR. It has beautiful white sand beaches and is the driest and hottest part of the DR.

Hesham...We are staying at the Iberostar Tainos. When we were in Puerto Plata, we stayed at the Iberostar Costa Dorada and had a great time, so we decided on another Iberostar for the same reason. I would have liked to try Punta Cana, but there are no direct flights from here so that's why we are going to give Cuba a try...

To Wendy and Hesham:<BR><BR>I have been to Cuba six times and at the xmas/new years period I have experienced highs from +34C daytime to as low as +18C. It really depends a bit on luck really. You can judge how cool it might be by looking at a North American weather chart and seeing how far south the jetstream is bending down over the continent. If it only dips as low as the Carolinas or so then Cuba will be nice and warm. When it dips as low as NORTHERN Florida, then the cooler air can reach northern Cuba. But it rarely lasts more than a day or two and then warm weather returns.<BR><BR>I also stayed at the Iberostar Tainos and it was ok by my standards. Nice pool and great beach.<BR><BR>Here's a hint for eating at the Tainos. When you walk from the hotel lobby down towards the restaurant (cafeteria style), keep walking down to the end of the corridor. There is a 2nd smaller restaurant for dinners and it is much more cozy and also a different menu. Seems to be hidden away and not well known to guests. Ask for dinner reservations for this 2nd restaurant and for sure.... you won't be disappointed.<BR><BR>Steve

Varadero is Beautiful!! HOwever, it definitely can be cooler than Puerto Plata. <BR>As other posters have said, the weather in Cuba can be cooler , as it is in Florida. Chances are, it will be nice, but it CAN drop a bit. <BR>BUT you can be fairly certain that Puerta Plata will be warm.<BR>Enjoy.<BR>
