Both of these hotels looked interesting. Clean, intimate and good value for the amenities. I am not interested in the "very best" accomodations although I want a pretty, comfortable, nicely appointed room. What do you think? Has anyone been to either of these hotels? Any other recommendations?

When visiting St. Bart's, we were told by several people that Village St. Jean is the best of the "moderately" priced hotels (by their definition) on the island. It was sold out during our visit, so we had to stay elsewhere, but it would be my first call if I were going back.
I can't remember seeing the Hotel Emeraude, but I am sure that it would be fine also.
thanks for the response. i will seriously look into it now.
Jeff,
We were also looking at the Village St.-Jean hotel. Did you find out anything more about this hotel? Hotel Emeraude is not listed in our Fodor's 99 Caribbean book.
Sandy, I saw their web site which is very nice. Pretty good pictures. The prices, even in winter, seem to be pretty good. Much less than the superexpensive villas and hotels. Location I gather doesn't mean that much due to the size of the island. The views of their cottages and rooms, varies with the location on the premises. Check out their web site. You can access it through st-barth.com
Jeff,
Thanks for the excellent tip (on the web site)! Bon Voyage!
