Honeymoon in St.Lucia
Hi,
My fiance and I are planning on getting married in the Mayan Riviera (Mexico) and are planning to honeymoon in St.Lucia. Any ideas? We are looking for all-inclusive, beautiful beach, snorkeling, great food and adults only.
We are looking for any recommedations for places to stay, as we have never been to St. Lucia before. We love Jamaica, Mexico and the Bahamas. We would appreciate any help.

Hi Minya,
First, congrats on the upcoming wedding.
Second, please understand that St. Lucia doesn't have that beautiful crystal-clear water you find in the Bahamas or Mexico. Don't misunderstand me, it is a BEAUTIFUL island. My husband and I LOVED it when we went there on vacation...but I wouldn't tell anyone to go to St. Lucia for beautiful beaches and snorkeling.
Anyway, there's only one area where there's good snorkeling and that's in the Anse Cochon area..not sure which hotels are in that area...(I think Anse Chastanet??) ...hopefully other posters can help you.
We stayed at the Wyndham which was all inclusive but I wouldn't recommend for a honeymoon.

I agree with caribtraveler about trhe beaches/water in St. Lucia. But like him, I agree St. Lucia is beautiful and I would go back in a heartbeat. The snorkeling is OK tho. I am a diver and found the diving to be very good. Not as good as Cayman or Cozumel, but better than many other islands. I posted a trip report at

St.Lucia would be a great place to honeymoon after a wedding in the Mayan Riviera! It will be something very different to add to your holiday. The southern part of island is incredibly romantic. Very secluded, lush and senic. The southern resorts offer snorkeling and diving right off shore. The snorkeling is descent, but the diving is awesome, in this area. Resort diving courses are offered at the main resorts in this area. I highly recommend trying it out. You will never regret it. Such a great place to start out as you can dive right from shore.
Yes the beaches are different in St.Lucia, but beautiful in there own way. St.Lucia is a volcanic island so the beaches with the natural sand is a dark grey/black/silver/white mix. Very exotic. The water in the southern part of island we found to be crystal clear, it just doesn't look to be as the sand is dark. Nothing shows off the beautiful water better then the imported white sand at the Jalousie Hilton against the cobalt blue water.
My recommendations that are worth checking out for romantic, secluded honeymoon.
#1 Ladera and the Jalousie Hilton,for the romantics dream. Stunning location and views between the Pitons. Good snorkeling and excellent diving off shore in marine reserve. White sand(imported) cove beach set at the base of the Petit Piton, beautiful. Both resorts are mainly plunge pool suites, with Ladera being the 3 walled rooms.
#2 would be a toss up between Anse Chastanet and Ti Kaye.
Anse Chastanet has one of the better snorkeling sites and diving also from shore in marine reserve. Dark sand beach, very exotic. No pool and lots of stairs to beach.
Ti Kaye, is located Anse Cochon also a marine reserve with decent snorkeling. I think a great place to stay, some plunge pool suites. A good value at this time as the resort is fairly new. Dark sand beach and stairs to beach.

I couldn't agree more with Donna's comments! I think a stay in St. Lucia would very nicely complement a wedding in the Mayan Riviera.
Definitely stay in the southern part of St. Lucia, where it is very lush and has a dramatic landscape with the pitons. For two very different tastes with minimal hassle of transfers, I would recommend a stay of a few nights at Ladera Resort and a few nights at Jalousie Plantation.
Ladera is basically located on the mountainside above Jalousie. It is exotic, dramatic and romantic--plunge pools and open air suites. Terrific view. Jalousie is more traditional in its ameneties, and it has a nice beach, as stated above. I thought the snorkeling from shore at Jalousie was above average. (I don't dive, so I can't comment on that.)
Have a great time deciding where to go--let us know, and happy honeymooning!

I petty much agree with what everyone else has said. My husband and I spent our honeymoon on St. Lucia 3 years ago. We stayed 5 nights at Ladera (WOW!!!) and 3 nights at the Hyatt (now a Sandals). I have to admit that your combination of wedding destination and honeymoon does intrigue me because it is very unique. However, I do have to bring up the logistics issue - have you gotten flights between CUN and SLU? Off the top of my head, I imagine that your best bet is to fly AA and connect in MIA and SJU. Not sure its worth all the travel time (although maybe there's an easier way). Why not stay in the Mayan Riviera, even if you switched hotels? Or you could go to Isla Mujeres. You could travel throughout the Yucatan - Merida is a nice colonial town. Or just get married in St. Lucia or an island that you could 'hop' over, such as Jamaica or Puerto Rico.

Thanks to everyone that replied. We really appreciate your comments. We are a little concerned about the comments regarding the beach..but we'll take a closer look at the southern beaches. Thanks again.
Mariarosa..concerning your questions...we live in Toronto, Canada, and right now it is cheaper for us to fly to Mexico and return to Toronto after the wedding and then depart to St.Lucia. (Since there are a few days between the return from Mexico and departure for our honeymoon, this will allow us to continue the wedding celebration in Toronto with our family and friends that we unable to attend the wedding in Mexico).
We decided to have our wedding in Mexico since we knew what to expect and that our family and friends would have a wonderful time...and that we absolutely love it!!! (We have travelled to the Mayan Riviera five times over the last few years and each time have stayed at a different resort). The Mayan Riviera is wonderful for our wedding, but we wanted something new for our honeymoon.

Hi All-
One more comment about St Lucia. We stayed at the large Sandals resort near the golf course for our honeymoon 5 yrs ago, and thought it was a HUGE mistake. Rooms were dumpy with stained furniture and netting on the bottoms of chairs were torn and hanging on the floor. Food was very average if not bad at times and the seafood (where you could find it) was really poor. I've seen better beaches on Minnesota lakes. Also talked to someone there who got an ear infection from the hotel pool! One guest there on a honeymoon was crying because she wanted to be able to return to her honeymoon spot for future milestone anniversries, but said she'd never come back. Guess that's enough...too many other great places to go to consider this!

My New wife and I just got back from the Sandals Grande. Just recently opened. We got the honeymoon swimup room. incredible. The italian food beat all the other choices. Yes the water wasnt as clear but it was lots of fun. Our room had 24 hour room service, in room bar included. We didnt want to leave. Not to much to do off the resort though. No need though. Free water skiing, snorkeling, scuba, etc. well, it was a very relaxing time. The swim up room made the difference! Good luck
