Hi,
My girl and I are going to our honeymoon in April 2013 and we are between two hotels, "Excellence Punta Cana" and "Barcelo Palace Delux", any recommendations as to which is best?
Rooms, in Excellence Terrace with Hot tub, Barcelo Master with Jacuzzi, we are looking for a private room.
Both are similar prices, so we are looking for amenities, like the Disco, staff, pools, etc?
We are adventures, so we are also looking for good excursions and motor water sports.
Other question would be if we need to rent a car?

Great questions! I took a poll from our travel agents (more than 100 of them), most of which have been to these resorts in Punta Cana. Here's what they told me:
Best resort & amenities in Punta Cana: It was a 67%/33% split in favour of Excellence Punta Cana.
Both have selling features; the grounds at the Barcelo are lovely but Excellence has a better reputation, some say. There is a great disco at the Barcelo and a great pool. Excellence club may provide a better over-all experience for honeymooners, as it is adults only.
Best day trips in Punta Cana: Hands down, Sonoa Island catemaran tour got the most votes, and some also recommend Zip Lining,
Transportation: no rental car, take a bus or taxi to any excursions.

Actually, Suze, the post above is not an advertisement. I am in fact a real live person, who really did poll our travel agents to get answers the questions posed by mobonilla. yes, I work with tripcentral.ca, which means I have access to agents who've actually been there -- tasted the food, walked the beaches, swam in the pools. Just trying to help.

Excellence is a wonderful resort. I would choose the adults only since you are on a honeymoon. The only drawback with Excellence is it is about an hour from the airport.
