Congrats on your honeymoon! Nevis is a wonderful way to celebrate your new marriage.

For fine dining, I can't recommend Montpelier enough. Fabulous food, great service, lovely and romantic ambience. Arrive early for drinks in the lounge.

Sunshine's is great. Their signature drink is the Killer Bee, which has become my favorite of the rum punches I've sampled in my travels. I sometimes try to recreate it at home, but most of the time I fall short.

For casual, local fare you must try Cla-Cha-Del for dinner one night. It's up the road from the 4S, not very far. Pas is the bartender and server and as charming as can be. My husband and I recall our meals at MOntpelier and Cla-Cha-Del and can't for the life of us decide which evening we enjoyed more, though for very different reasons.

Take a look at the website www.nevis1.com, which evaluates most of the restaurants and sites on Nevis. It will give you more than enough info to go on.

In my many connections on American Eagle in San Juan, I've never been separated from my luggage and I've never been bumped. Though I did request and was granted a seat on an earlier connection on one occasion.

I agree with the above. But to address your question, I've dined at Miss Junes, I can give her a unqualified endorsement for an extravaganza of food, the theatrics of Miss June herself and incredible surroundings. All worth the price. A couple of comments. Ensure you call to make reservations (no exceptions). Your dinner will be served "family style" (a massive dining table provides some interesting company...not a romantic cuddle-up option). Understand that the food will be delicious & exotic and in extreme quantities & selections, but NOT necessarily gourmet. And finally, take a cab...the "adult refreshments" pre/during/apres dinner, are included in the tariff...leave the rental car at the resort! Its really a lark and worth the effort to schedule a visit...she's only open a couple of nights a week. Have fun. Cheers, Richard.

Just so you aren't disappointed, when we were in Nevis in July, the Cla-Cha-Del was closed, and upon asking was told it was due to retirement. I've heard since that they plan on opening another restaurant, however. Maybe we're in luck and they re-opened, but to be sure you better ask before planning on a meal there.

I would not worry too much about getting bumped, just make sure you go to the desk downstairs at your gate as soon as you get to SJU and check in with them. As you have to take a bus out to the plane. You should have luggage tags from FS, make sure you use them.

Yes, I know Miss June very well. Make sure you make a reservation as she is not open every night. I would definitely go to Montpelier. It is fantastic. The Hermitage for dinner or breakfast on Sunday. Golden Rock (or their beach cafe) for lobster salad and Nisbet has a nice buffet once a week for dinner. We also like to go to the beach there. The water can be a little rough and its not a great swimming beach, but I sometimes like to go have lunch there and just sit on the beach as the palm trees are beautiful.

If you are planning on staying at the hotel and not renting a car, you might just want to take a taxi tour of the island. The FS can arrange that for you.

You will enjoy FS very much I am sure as the grounds are beautiful. It has a couple of really nice shops. You almost don't need to pack anything. Of course, some of the clothing is very expensive, but I have gotten a couple of cute things there.

The FS has a wonderful pool area, very relaxing. I stayed in a suite one time which was on the ground level pretty close to the pool. It was fantastic. The spa is nice and I think it will give you a great chance to relax.

If you want a *really* laid back beach bar, walk past Sunshine's, go all the way nearly to the end of the beach, and stop at the Double Deuce. We had a delicious lunch there, and the rum punch was great. I think we tried everyone else's suggestions, with exception of Miss June's which was closed. All were excellent. Have many pix of the resort, if you're interested. We stayed at 4S in June, and loved it. Have a wonderful honeymoon!

Depending on how much you want to get out and see the island should determine whether to rent a car or just use taxis. Nevis is the first island I rented a car and did the driving myself and I'm glad that I did! It's very small and easily navigable and I enjoyed going around at my own pace, stopping in shops or on various beaches when the mood struck me.

I also like the beach at Nisbet and would recommend spending a day there for a nice change of pace. The nice thing about Nisbet is that they allow guests to use their beach chairs and umbrellas with they stay for lunch. (At least that was the case when I was there last November.) Try the conch fritters and sample their many frozen drinks.

I liked Lovers Beach for a bit of privacy. My husband and I walked up and down and saw nobody while we were there. We just pulled our car off to the side of the road and walked down to it.

Golden Rock is nice for lunch, too, and they offer some hiking trails that are beautiful. Most folks report seeing monkeys there in the late afternoon.

I also liked the short walk from Mt Nevis Hotel down to the ruins of the Cottle Chapel. Mt. Nevis is a good place to eat, too, but not in the same league as Montpelier.

ohh, reliving all of these memories makes me long to visit Nevis again. It really is a terrific place!

Cla-Cha-Del is definitely closed.

For very good casual "beachfront" dining try Gallipot. They have a terrific Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding brunch every Sunday and are open for lunch and dinner Thursday, Friday and Saturday (call ahead for dinner reservations as this place is small and is very popular with the Ex-pats.

Also, for fine dining try Coconut Grove. This restaurant opened last June and after some teething pains has steadily progressed. Be warned though a meal there can get pretty pricey.

Viceroy hit the nail on the head about Miss June's. You go there for the experience (it's like a big dinner party with old friends) not for faboulous food. It's a fun night if you like making new friends and listening to fasinating tales of island life.

You've received excellent advise from the other posters so I hope you enjoy your stay on this special island.

As for the SJU/NEV flight you should have too much of a problem. If you are flying AA from NYC you should be able to check your baggage through to your destination as well as get your boarding passes for the AE hop to NEV when you check in at NYC. If you have your boarding pass you won't be bumped.

Boy! My fingers weren't working today. I meant to say that on the SJU/NEV flight you "shouldn't have much of a problem.

By the way, don't limit yourself to Sunshine's for lunch every day. It's good but there are plenty of other places. Try Martha's Tea House at the Botanical Gardens for a restful lunch in a very beautiful setting or Cafe des Arts for salads or a light lunch, Seafood Madness (more than just seafood), Oualie Beach for beachfront dining (both lunch and dinner), the Patio (in town) for local food, to name a few. For tasty but moderately priced dinners try Le Bistro in Charlestown (wear shorts as this place has no A/C) or any of several Chinese restaurants located around the island (some are also open for lunch).

One week, how exciting for you. My SIL and BIL are on their honeymoon in NZ right now, and my husband and I are taking a pre anniversary trip to St. John in two weeks. I hope everyone has a great time.

Everyone has definitely given you some great advice. We loved our meals at Banana's and Oualie Beach. The taxi tour was great, but driving didn't appear to be a problem if you do rent a car yourself. Have fun!!

I want to welcome you soon to our wonderful Island. I'm the chef at Oualie Beach Resort. I must say that you are very lucky, because this island has an amazing amount of food related things to do. Oualie is a very casual place to eat. We have great cusine with sand between your toes as we are right on the beach. We don't have a dress code and we want you to have a great time.

Gallipot is open again and have great seafood at a good price. Bannana's is closed but I believe she will be doing dinners at cafe de arts soon. Great Breakfast at the cafe. I love the pancakes. All the hotels are open now so you have lots to choose from.

And yes Cla cha del is now closed for good. Botanical gardens I believe is closed right now too. For good "Local Style food" Rumors near the air port and Unellas in town are great.

One more note, this week of October 24th - the 28th Nevis is holding the first annual NICHE food festival. All the chefs on the island are going to do food demos of local cuisine in the afternoons and dinners at night. You must ask 4seasons about it. My demo day is Tuesday.

Yes, Liz that is the owners other restaurant, but this honeymoon couple will not still be there, based on their posted dates. I was really referring to the new location which will not be open for a while.

Chef Jason, we will DEFINITELY stop by. The food festival sounds wonderful. Do you suggest reservations? We will definitely get the info upon check-in. We were actually planning to do the MAP at the 4S for the first 2 days to unwind. After that - we are big breakfast on the terrace folks, but lunch and dinner we will most likely be off property. There are just so many choices! It will be fun choosing.

I will be sure to post a trip report upon our return.

Nevis is just awesome. Montpelier really is a must. We met 3 other couples while we were there and all of us went as a group. It was really nice.

Also, the hotel can arrange an island tour during the day which was worth it. they take you to other hotels and areas.

The food at 4S is some of the best I have had (dinners). It's an experience.

there is also another bar that is great for sunsets. I can't remember the name but it is something by the sea I believe.

Flights are not a problem. We flew San Juan to St. Kitts and then took the 4S boat shuttle over to Nevis. The Nevis airport is expanded now and offers flights which weren't available when we went. If you have any futher questions

There is a great new telescope on Nevis, which was donated by Greenpeace for whale watching. Fin whales migrate to the West Indies from New England in the winter. Even if the whales aren't there it's still a great thing to do while visiting Nevis.

The telescope is located at Herbert Heights on Saddle Hill - the historic site of Nelson's lookout.

Mr. Herbert and his family have laid trails to the telescope and built a small visitor centre as well as a shelter for the telescope.

On a clear day the views are incredible, and the trails are fairly easy.

Mr. Herbert is very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of the island, as well as its fascinating history.

The site is a bit hard to find so call ahead first. (869-469-2501) For a small fee he will give you a great tour.

Liz - FYI, this telescope is not new. It's been there for quite a few years. You are right though about Mr. Herbert. He is is a terrific guy with a very interesting background. He is a wealth of knowledge.
