Honeymoon in Aruba and Curacao

My fiance and I were all set to book our 10 day honeymoon to Aruba when my boss mentioned there's nothing to do there besides lay on the beach. Don't get me wrong, I love doing that, but maybe not for 10 days. Has anyone been to Curacao from Aruba? We are now thinking of spending our honeymoon 1/2 in Aruba then 1/2 in Curacao. Is this a good or bad idea? Where are some good places to stay and eat at? Thanks!

Has your boss even been to Aruba? There are plenty of things to see and do besides just lay on the beach.

Dividing your time between Aruba and Curacao can be done. You'll need to book a flight on either Insel Air or Tiara Air for the 30 minute flight. It's a very small "puddle jumper" plane.

We actually found more things to see and do in Aruba than Curacao.

Check out DePalm.com They are the major tour operator for Aruba and it will give you a good idea of what you can do.

Curacao is not as built up as Aruba. The main attraction is the Sea Aquarium and the snorkeling on the Westside of the Island. The downtown shopping area is nice. We spent 6 nights and it was too long for us. We enjoyed all the activity and dining opportunities in Aruba more.

Yes, he's been to Aruba before.

We also read a lot about Bonaire, would that be a better island to consider instead of Curacao? I heard it's a lot smaller and since we are only going for 10 days I don't want to feel too rushed if we island hop...

We're going to be going at the end of August beginning of September. I read that Sept. and Oct. are Aruba's rainy season, but then I also read the best time to go is in August. Are we okay going the time we were planning on going?

Thanks for you help!

It depends on what you are looking for. Bonaire is all about snorkeling and diving. If you want to go over there and check that out, then yes. You can take the same airlines from Aruba to Bonaire. They have less flights to Bonaire than Curacao, so plan accordingly. I would go with Aruba and either Curacao or Bonaire and not all 3 unless you add on some more days. I'm all about running, seeing, doing on vacation and have a hard time just lying on the beach, which is one of the reasons why we liked Aruba. Lots of things to see and do.

We went to Aruba the first week of a September and the weather was fine. Hot and humid, no rain. Be weary of Labor Day Weekend in Sepetember. Everything will be crowded and full of families. We went to Curacao via Aruba in a May. In May isn't wasn't as hot. I don't think you'll have any issues weather wise. I've read the last 2 - 3 years Aruba has been getting tropical storms in October/Novemeber and rain showers in December.

If you're interested I have our trip pictures posted at:

I agree with your boss! We considered it a privilage to be in Curacao, but were easily bored with Aruba. The restaurants in Aruba may make it more of a value, but we preferred dining in Curacao. The cocktails were better and it is a more romntic island. We visited the two islands a couple of years apart with the same friends. Our friends loved Aruba, so it is a matter of taste. Aruba is VERY commercialized and we're fans of that.

I am curious as to what you ended up doing? We are looking at honeymooning in Aruba as well and I would like to know if you enjoyed your experience. We plan to travel mid-October of 2014.
