We were married on August 1st and are just getting a chance to plan our honeymoon. After I lost my job, my father and spending 7 weeks in the ICU with my grandmother all within weeks of my wedding, I definitley need to get away to relax. Any suggestions that will make decisions easier would be very appreciated.
We will be travelling from Maine/Boston to the carribean and would like to go sometime in the first 2 weeks of November. Looking for:
1.) beautiful white sandy beaches (but would like something other than laying on beach to do.)
2.) Great food and retaurants out of hotels
3.) Not big city or too touristy
4.) Luxious hotel ON beach with really nice pool, newer, private.
5.) Nice beach bars or chairs with service.
Thanks!

How about Aruba??? I have been twice and found it to be wonderful.
1. great weather
2. clean and safe
3. good restaurants
4. beautiful blue water
I'm not sure about traveling from Boston since I'm from Philly but do some online research.
La Luna in Grenada.
How about Bermuda? It's a very quick trip from Boston.
Well, I've nailed it for you. It's got to be Anguilla. It fits everything you've said. The beaches there are out of this world and there are over 30 of them. They have the most beautiful water and white sand I've personally ever seen. They also have over 80 restaurants and Anguilla boasts some of the best food in the Caribbean. I have traveled extensively throughout the Caribbean and this is by far the most fantastic, relaxing place you could ever imagine staying. I would highly recommend the Cuisinart resort. It has a great beach bar that is totally fun, and a very nice pool. They also have a great spa there, and by the sounds of things I think you might want to allow yourself to indulge. I hope you will consider Anguilla and the Cuisinart. They even hand deliver sorbet at 3pm every day at the pool. Another place to look into would be Cap Jaluca on Anguilla. It's great too-but I think Cuisinart has the better pool and to me wonderful, terrific guest attention. We feel like it's our home away from home whenever we go. You would be well cared for and could get some much needed relaxation.
November? Try the west coast of Barbados-- (many properties to choose from) or as suggested above Anguilla. Both will have great beaches and weather in Nov. Should be some good last minute deals out there.
I agree with Anguilla and especially CapJaluca. VERY SPECIAL!!!
What is there to do other than the beach??(as per op's request)

I also agree with Anguilla- Cap Juluca is my favorite hotel anywhere. But if you want a little less expensive look at Fragipani. You can't go wrong with Anguilla - amazing beaches, privacy and the best food and drinks anywhere in the carribean and I have been around. We will be going back for our 8th rip in December. Congrats on you wedding! Gigi
I personally have other favorite islands for what I am looking for - but based on what you are describing...Anguilla sounds like the fit...pristine white sand beaches, nice clean hotel with amenities...you could always take a catamaran tour to Saba or St. Barths or even St.Martin for the day...some snorkeling?

PS another vote for Cap Jaluca in Anguilla.

My girl friend went to Cap Jaluca and raved. VERY expensive, but hey, it's your honeymoon. I went to the British Virgin ISlands and stayed at Little Dix Bay. It was gorgeous--luxurious huts on stilts at the water, awesome food, beautiful beaches, very quiet. If you like casinos and discos, it is not for you. When we went Michael J. Fox was there with his wife and child.
Although I adore Bermuda, it will be too cold in November. Bermuda's season is June, July, August.
Thank you so much for all the replies. It seems like Anguilla is the place for us! Thanks again.
Now I really want to go to Anguilla but my travel agent just advised that the food/drinks on the island are really, really expensive. We love to go out to eat are there at least some lower cost options on this island? To quote, she said it was $35 for a cheeseburger. This pricing is fine for dinner but can not spend that kind of money for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Please let me know what you think? Also, Cap Juluca looks amazing but what else is nice for a little bit less cost?
THanks!!!!
I would go to Sandal Montego Bay or Sandals Negril in Jamaica.
White sand beaches, plenty of activitives it is all inclusive--food and entertainment included. Also Nov is still in Hurricane season and Sandals has a hurrican guarantee, which will give you a replacemnet vaction in the event of a hurricane and they honor it. I was there for hurricane Ivan....
I have been to Jamaica 4 times by the way.....
Ok, your travel agent is half right. Food is expensive, but again there are lower priced options. $35 for a hamburger. No way. The Ferryboat Inn has great burgers and, what, about $10-$12. Smokey's is a wonderful beach bar/restaurant. Elodia's, Uncle Ernie's, Gwen's...all excellent choices with a sweet vibe.
Dinners are expensive, so make sure you budget for that.
Check out Luxury Link. Ku is offering a deal of 7 nights for opening bids of $1200. We didn't stay there (Cuisinart for us), but did have drinks at the bar. It looked nice from the outside.
jwoodbrey,

Mrs. K and I did The Plantation in Ochos Rios in '97 and will do it again at a significant milestone. Don't forget to stop off at the Ochos Rios Jerk Center.
I'll say it again---as I have many times before. Look at www.sbvillas.ai It's a bit older, but RIGHT on gorgeous Shoal Bay East. There are several reasonable restaurants within walking distance for lunch or early dinner, Gwenn's, Uncle Ernie's. Zara's ia about a 15 min. walk down the beach for dinner, priced very reasonable and excellent food. Also full kitchens in the units if you want to eat in.
"Ku" is right next door for a little more luxury.
Shoal Bay East is one of the best beaches we've ever been on in the Caribbean in 20 years, enough said.
