Honeymoon advice?

Hi -
I am planning my Honeymoon for April 2009 and I am looking for help on honemoon ideas. We will be going in late March/early April, which could roll over into Easter. I have been told that some places shut down due to the holiday. I am looking for a place in the carribean, with non-stop air from Newark, NJ that would allow for a relaxing, but can offer a fun-filled week.

Ideas?

Hi, not sure where you heard many places shut down over Easter as that is one of the biggest vacation times in the Caribbean so all resorts are open. However, some restaurants and shops most likely will be closed on Easter Sunday if that's what you mean. You didn't give much info about what your priorities are but since you want to go direct from Newark I would like to suggest Antigua. We went direct on Continental in March and it was such an easy flight compared to other Caribbean trips -- four hours and we were there. There are lots of resorts to choose from, most are AI's since it's a bit difficult to get around the island -- if you are looking for a high-end, very romantic honeymoon, check out Galley Bay -- it's pricey but absolutely everything is included and it is worth it. The premium oceanfront rooms are worth the $. Hint: call the 800# and ask for the sale price, you may be able to get 25% off depending on the dates (Easter may be tough). It's also featured on luxurylink.com and the price is a good deal. it's one of our favorite resorts and we have been to many. Jamaica is also an easy direct flight, you might check out Jamaica Inn, we haven't been there yet but it's on our list.

You are misinformed. Easter is one of the busiest "tourist times" in the Caribbean and I have never heard of any resorts closing for that holiday. What you will find is, like most anywhere, many of the shops, most government offices and some of the local restaurants will close for Easter Sunday (and on some island, Easter Monday) but none of those closing would have a major impact on your Honeymoon trip.

Deciding where to go is another matter. You have a lot of choices as Caribbean destinations that can be reached non-stop from Newark, NJ airport include the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Puerto Rico. You might also be able to reach St. thomas, Cancun, Cozemel, Grand Cayman, St. Martin, Aruba and St. Lucia, if not from Newark, from JFK or LGA.

You haven't given us much to go on except you want to "relax" and you want a "fun filled week". Since you can "relax" anywhere (including your own back yard) tell us what "fun filled" means to you. Try to be specific. Don't tell us you want to "relax on the beach" as you can do that anywhere - there are only about 3 islands in all of the Caribbean that don't have beaches.

Give us a list of the 10 to 15 things that are most important to you in an island vacation, tell us more about your likes and dislikes and give us an idea of your budget 9again give us a specific $ figure for accomodations, food and airfare. That will help us steer you in the right direction - after all we are not mindreaders. Don't use nebulous terms like "affordable" or "reasonabily priced" as they are meaningless without a point of reference. What's affordable for one person may not be affordable to you.

Lastly, do yourself, and us a favor. Click on the "destinations" link at the top of this page and click through to the Caribbean Section. read the brief summaries of each island to determine which most appeal to you (no two islands are alike and no one island "has it all&quot. After reading the sunmmaries you should be able to narrow you choice of islands to 2 or 3. Once you do that tell us as it will make it easier for us to recommend resorts you might enjoy.

Thank you so much! One of the other things I was looking for is something that is adults or couples only....and not expensive (less than 5K including air).

Check out resorts in the Dominican Republic - lots of "adult only" AI's there. It's one of the most economical islands in the the Caribbean. Check the Travel Section of your Sunday Paper you may find package deals in your price range. Also, the major airline have "package deals" on their websites.

Rather than continuing to post the same question on here over & over again, do some homework, then we'd be happy to help you. We have no idea about what you like, what you are looking for, etc. Based on your budget, & non-stop flight requirements you should be able to narrow things down rather nicely.
