Help with Current Airfare Rates

Hello, I am planning my honeymoon for Oct., 2002. Leaning towards Grenada or St. Lucia but having a very hard time finding affordable airfare. I would like to fly out of Jacksonville, FL but could use the first day of honeymoon to drive to Miami and fly from there. Right now it looks to cost about $1250 or more for the two of us to fly there. does this sound reasonable? I think I heard somewhere that ticket prices should drop after mid-March, is this true? If anyone has advice on what to do to find the best ticket price or can tell me what they have paid for tickets I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you!

I think that's high, esp. for October, which is off-season. Since Oct. is not a peak travel period I believe you would be pretty safe waiting for a lower fare.

Also, you may do better with an air/hotel package from either Air Jamaica or American Airlines.
When attempting to book my airfare for my honeymoon in early May, I was told to wait until 3 or 4 months before in order for the prices to drop. Sure enough, the prices dropped significantly, from about $1200 to $500. Air Jamaica had a sale in Jan. I would wait.

Air Jamaica Vacations will probably have a sale late spring or summer for October.
Booking a Package Air and Hotel you usually get a much lower air rate that booking air separately.
Thanks for the advice everyone. I guess I am kind of worried about taking care of this as soon as possible. I know it is the off season, but I kind of want to make resort/hotel reservations soon, just in case they fill up. Yet I would hate to have a place to stay but not be able to afford a plane ticket. Does AirJamaica have a list of airfare and hotel packages on-line? Can you get an instant on-line quote? Any further advice on getting cheap plane tickets?
Thanks!

I understand, being at least as anal as the next guy, and my last couple of trips I booked way ahead because I was going for Christmas week and President's Day week.

Guess what? It was NOT necessary. Even those weeks didn't fill up, with the exception of a couple of specific hotels (usually the high-end ones).

The last I knew, Air Jamaica didn't have on-line quotes, and you had to call them. I heard they may have changed that and now you might have to go through a travel agent.

I prefer to book stuff myself but sometimes you can save $$ getting a package through an agency.

Believe me, there's no rush.

Do you have American or TWA mileage?

Between sept and nov 14th you can use 15,000 miles and $225 for RT to any of their Carribean destinations. (pretty much all of the islands like Aruba, Bermuda, St. Thomas...pretty sure St. Lucia too)
We just booked this for our trip to Aruba.

HTH!
Molly

I too was very worried about booking it far enough in advance. However, I found it much cheaper to book them separately. I did book the hotel very early in advance and got a great deal. Good luck!
