Help With 5 Star Cuban Hotel
Would like to travel from Montreal to Cuba this fall and we're interested in a 5 star, first class hotel. Does anyone have any suggestions and/or reviews of hotels they've stayed in?

If you mean 5 star as in US grade 5 star (Four Seasons etc), Cuba has no such hotels. On the other hand you can find large villas with all manner of services available for a fraction of what you'd pay in the US/Canada. But the type of luxury you'll find will be different from that you may be used to.

I agree with travleis - Cuba is a fantastic place to visit but there are no U.S.-standard 5 star hotels.
However we went to Sandals Royal Hicacos in October and totally loved it. Beautiful place with good food and superb staff.

It depends upon what you are looking for. A beach vacation or something city based such as in Havana.
You might check out any of the Melia Sol Club's. I stayed at one in Cayo Largo and although rated 4 star, it was supurb. There are also Melia's in Varadero and Cayo Coco to name a few.
In Havana, there is always the very elegant Hotel Nacional or equally charming and elegant at 4 star is the Hotel Santa Isabel right on Plaza Armas in Old Havana.
It depends on whether you are looking for a hotel with a pool, but the culture and history of Havana, or just a sandy beach and total R & R.
Check out www.1click2cuba.com for some overviews of these hotels.
Also, there are lots of reviews and a very active Cuban message board at.
