Help us pick an island for our 10th anniversary, we loved St. Martin

Jump to last reply

My husband and I are celebrating our 10th anniverary this fall and are planning a trip without the kids (first time since I got pregnant with my son over 3 years ago!). We went to St. Martin about 4 years ago and absolutely loved it. We stayed in a condo rental via vrbo.com in a hotel, but rarely spent any time there. We rented a car for the week and spent every day beach hopping, shopping, some diving, hanging out at beach bars, etc. My husband can't sit on the beach all day, an hour or two at a time, then we have to go do something (shop, explore, etc), then go back to the beach, etc. We'd go back to our hotel each night around 5, shower and get ready, and go out for a nice dinner followed by an evening of drinks and music.

Can anyone recommend another island where we can do such things? I don't want to be stuck at a resort the entire time (AI's are NOT for us), we want freedom to drive around and explore. I've considered St. Martin again with half our time there and half our time over at St. Bart's. What we're looking for is a decent place to stay, a nice view from the room and perhaps a pool, but the place we stay is probably the thing we're least concerned with (and we'll likely eat all meals out so no kitchen is needed for us). We want an island that we can drive, explore, with pretty beaches and clear water, one with decent diving for my husband, some shopping, and good light life. Where would you recommend?
