HELP: Honeymoon at Caneel Bay in St. John

My fiance and I are considering the Caneel Bay resort for our honeymoon in May. Can anyone describe the "Courtside" accomodations? These are the least expensive rooms (although still relatively expensive). We are trying to decide if its worth paying a higher price of a fancier room or settle for the "courtside" rooms if nice enough for the price and the occasion. Any aditional advice or feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Michael, NJ

My wife and I stayed at the courtside rooms this past july. they were very nice and not inconvenient at all. we had a great location near the fitness center and a short walk down the hill to the beach. we are going back in may ourselves for 10 days. we absolutely loved it and there are no negatives about the trip at all. The people were great very friendly. Snorkeling was amazing.....swam with turtles and sting rays. breathtaking beaches. if i can be of any help let me know.

Although Caneel Beach isn't as scenic as Trunk Bay, it has an incredible variety of fish. This is the beach from which we swam with turtles, stingrays, pufferfish, and even an octopus! And all just steps from our room. The advantage to staying at caneel is having access to all the other beaches on the property, that the public does not. Trunk gets crowded - but Scott is just beautiful, We stayed beachside, but since we travelled from beach to beach it didn't make that much difference. Our rooms were on Caneel Beach (we were there with kids . . . ), and the view was no big deal (blocked by "privacy" trees. Therefore, I'd stay in a courtside room, because what you're really paying for is the access!

While Trunk Bay is beautiful, has an underwater snorkeling trail and is a must on a St. John visit, the privacy offered by Caneel beaches may spoil you forever. I have been there once, and am glad that I had the experience; however, I have no burnng desire to return there. While Caneel Beach has the most traffic in comparison to the other six beaches, it is people sparse in comparison to Trunk Bay. It also has a swim-up raft. Often at the other beaches, there may be hardly any other guests - perfect for honeymooners. Great snorkeling can be had at Caneel, Turtle Bay, Scott's and Hawksnest.

There is not much difference in the pricier rooms, the main difference is views and being directly on the beach. You may be well served by stating that you will be on your honeymoon, and ask for a free upgrade, if one is available. In May, you may have a good chance to get one.
