Has anyone used "the patch" for motion sickness?

I do MUCH better with Bonine - it's over the counter, and 1 tablet does the trick for me.

A travel agent recommended it we met in St. Thomas after trying everything. I am the same as you - winding roads, boat rides, planes, even riding backward on the train. I can get car sick even when I'M driving, sometimes.

Bonine has been the best, and does not make me sleepy.

I used to use the patch, and it was extremely effective, and I was lucky enough to have no side effects (I could even drink with it, but it's not recommended). However, there is a bit of fussing about with it -- getting an Rx and filling it, careful application, don't touch your eyes, vigilance about side effects, etc.

Now I generally don't need anything unless the sea conditions are very rough. And I've since switched to Dramamine II (same formulation as Bonine), which gets me through those situations with no problems and no drowsiness. (With it, I can even prepare meals while we are underway on a sailboat in heavy seas ... that's a tough test even for those who aren't susceptible to mal de mer).

I also would suggest using to Bonine. I used the path on a cruise and it definately has some side effects. It gives you terrible dry mouth and it blurred my vision (not the whole time, just when trying to read) it was kind of scary! I wouldn't risk the side effects, Bonine is great. Good luck and have a great trip!! Lisa S.

Yes I have used the patch a long time ago. I was on a criuse with a girlfriend and it had several side effects. The worst was memory loss while you are taking it. Others are extreme thirst and blurred vision. I would suggest bonine instead.I take it all the time now.It is what the ship doctor gave us when we both had those bad side effects.I take it to dive and for all travel,my children even take it.Hope this helps.I thought they took the patches off the market anyway, but maybe they are back. You will be fine with bonine.Good luck!

Mary,
What you really need to do is find out what works for you. Everyone is giving you information on what worked for them but everyone is different. If it were me I would start with the least invasive product (Seabands) and work up from there. Personally I've had very good luck with Bonine but it may not work for you. The patch would be my last choice because of the side effects.
It's your body, figure out what works and doesn't have side effects and enjoy your trip!!
