Am going to St. Barths at the end of feb., first of march. Am looking at the manapany cottages versus St. Barths Beach Hotel. Anyone have any advice?

St. Barths...Have you been there before? I've travelled a few times to the island (spent the day there each time) and it's got to be one of the worst islands in the caribbean I've been on.
People are very rude, refuse to speak english, downtown is very unattractive, and it's terribly expensive.
Sorry I do not have advice on the hotels your'e looking at but wanted to share my experiences with you.

It shows how there can be different opinions. I've been going to SB for 10 years and wouldn't think of going to another island. Make sure you read enough about the island to make sure you like the "style" of the island. I stayed at Manapany in 1990. Not my favorite. Not a swimming beach. Do you want to be on the beach? Most stay on hillsides and drive to beaches. Check out www.cieux.com for SB posts.

I just love it when cruise ship "day trippers" give such a strong opinion. No wonder many of the shops in St. Bart's close down when the cruise ships come into harbor. And...can you even believe that on a french island someone wouldn't speak English very well (as if that's a crime). You give the term "ugly American" a new meaning.
I have visited St. Bart twice (both times during the late summer season) and have always found the people to be among the friendliest anywhere. It is my favorite relaxation destination. We get a room at Eden Rock which is one of the finest places I have ever stayed (be sure to request to be "On the Rock".
