Has anyone ever stayed at the Grand Sheraton in Paradise Island?

Don't want to spend the extra money for the Atlantis and thought the Sheraton (since it's right next door) might be a good pick.
If anyone has ever stayed there and could give me some info on the hotel(service, housekeeping, resturants, activities ect)that would be great!
I heard that the hotel no longer has music outside by the pool. Is this true?
Any additional info would be greatly appreciated!

The Sheraton is pretty basic. Not bad in any way. And the beach in front is very nice. It's not the Ritz, but then it doesn't cost as much either.

I like the Sheraton much better. It is plush enough inside and less fast-paced. The staff is great and time and space aren't luxury items at the Sheraton. Say "Hi!" to the bartender in the lobby, and strike up a conversation with him about his life growing up in the out islands. He has stories about his snorkeling experiences, free-diving for sponges, Caribbean Lobster and conch. Their Bahama Mama's are better and less expensive than the Atlantis'. Robert

Hi! We stayed at the Sheraton Grand on PI the week after Thanksgiving 2002. Priced lower than Atlantis, it was worth every penny and MORE. Only buffet was during the breakfast hours and only if you chose to have omelettes made to order or perhaps a waffle, otherwise, you ordered from the menu. Same for lunch, anything you wished for from the menu, by the pool, with a steel band playing for dancing. The dinners there were excellent!! Especially in the Grill, where the service was attentive, and the food was prepared to your request.

We visited the Atlantis rooms, as friends were staying there. Rundown, and dirty was the impression we got from our look-see of their room. Also the grounds at the Atlantis were unkept. The lagoon was covered with algae, the ponds filled with dead fish and the scum on the underwater tanks and tunnels made it impossible to see the fish and shark. This couple joined us for dinner and stated that the food at the Grill was better than any meal they purchased that week.

The beach at the Atlantis left much to be desired, small, very rocky and a trash dump filled with discarded furniture and empty trucks was the view you saw on the way to the beach. We understood why the beautiful, clean beach at the Sheraton was filled each day with folks from the Atlantis.

We also enjoyed great daily room serivce, friendly staff at the bars and resturants, and great food/bar service as we lay right on the beach.

The hotel also provided a great snorkling/dive trip as part of our package!

We explored downtown by ferry, which was a short walk away, returning by taxi to speak to locals to get insight on things to do and see.

We also want to recommmend Powerboat Adventures-- book the all day trip to Exuma, use the discount that is described in your book in the room, saved us over $50 from listed price. A day to truly remember, first class all the way!!!

Hope this helps! We can't wait to go back to the Sheraton, we hope they NEVER sell to the Atlantis!!!
We recently stayed at the Atlantis for Presidents Day Weekend. It was snowing here at home, so our departure flight was delayed two whole days. We stayed at the Atlantis one extra night and due to the cost, moved over the Sheraton for our second extra night. Honestly, I liked the Sheraton much better. When we arrived at the Atlantis initially we were told we were upgraded to the Royal tower, but this resulted in our luggage being lost for several hours due to the upgrade. Then our key card would not work in our room so every time we wanted to enter our room we had to call security. The atlantis is too big and I feel I spent more time complaining at the front desk than I did on the beach. But I disagree with the last post, Cove Beach is a beautiful quiet beach at the Atlantis. The Sheraton was refreshing in that the hotel staff was so nice and accommodating. All rooms are oceanview, which is not the case in the Royal Towers at the Atlantis. Also, the bahama mamas might be cheaper at the Sheraton, but they are alot smaller. The ones at the Atlantis are better. I liked the Dirty Bananas the best. Stay at the Sheraton and party at the Atlantis. Yes, they may check for bracelets, but you can sneak by. Enjoy your trip.

Basicly what everyone is saying, and from my own experience is that Atlantis is so bad anything is an improvement.Whole island is bsaicly one big tourist trap and DO NOT BUY ROYAL HOLIDAY VACATION CLUB NO MATTER WHAT THEY TELL YOU.
