Has anyone been to Montserrat lately?

We are thinking of going to Montserrat in July and since there are really no recent posts on that island, I thought I'd see if anyone has been there lately. My husband and I and 2 or 3 of our kids will be staying in a villa for a week or so and are looking forward to its just taking it easy. If anyone has been there and rented a villa, which one did you stay in? I'd love any advice or tips as well. Thanks!

You do know that Montserrat's volcano is still spewing ash? The most recent eruption was only a couple weeks ago and was so bad the ash cloud caused air traffic disruptions as far north as San Juan. A significan portion of the island is "closed off" to visitors and residents alike.

The reason you haven't seen and recent posts about Montserrat is very few tourists go to the island.

Thanks for the heads up. The exclusion zone is always closed off from what I understand. Has more of the island been closed off since the eruption?

Here we are a few months later and we are all booked to go to Montserrat and stay in a gorgeous villa called Montserrat Breezes. We're really excited!

My partner owns a beautiful villa called Barefoot Villa in Montserrat in the village of Olveston which is in the safe zone. We live at the villa for the winter months and rent it out from April to Jan. The volcano has been very quiet since its last eruption in March. And when it is quiet Montserrat is a magical island to visit if one loves simplicity, safety and friendliness. Often times the beaches are your private sanctuaries and there are lots of great hikes up into the rainforest. The restaurants serve a variety of local fare.. and best of all, you can drink the water which comes right down off the mountains.

I have blogged some of our adventures on our blog www.barefoot-villa.blogspot.com if anyone is interested in finding out more about this island that takes us back in time...
