Guadeloupe hotel info?

My husband and I (age 27) are looking for a hotel in Guadeloupe on the beach with lots of watersports (windsurfing, sailing, etc.) for under $300/night. We would like to find a place where all sports are included, not a "pay as you use" system. We do not want an all-inclusive, as we would like to dine out. Thanks for your help.

What type of hotel/resort are you looking for and when do you intend going to Guadeloupe? This will help me... to help you since I know the island rather well. In the vast majority of resorts, some sports will be free of charge, others will not, since they are operated by outside companies. Just let me know.

We would like to stay in a resort-style hotel, around $225/night - our main desire is to find a hotel on a nice, white sand beach, with lots of watersports, etc. that isn't too crowded.
Possibilities we're considering: Le Meridien, Auberge de la vieille tour, La Creole Beach Hotel, Le Manganao Paladien. Are any of these very nice?

Le Paladien and La Creole Beach are in the 3 star range (middle range). So is the older Meridien in St Francois, while the other Meridien La Cocoteraie is considered as top range on the island. We stayed at the Auberge de la Vieille Tour which was nice, but the beach is small. However the swimming-pool is large (for French standards...). Prices for all hotels will very a lot according to the season.
My wife and I were all over Guadeloupe in January 99. From what you seem to be looking for, I would suggest that you go immediately to Les Saintes. we have traveled all over the caribbean and it ranks at or near the top of our list. The hotel Le Bois Joli is very nice. There are also some 30 or more B&B style places available. The food is terrific....the island is a postcard....I love to talk about it so email me, if you like!

For activities, a beautiful beach, and great food, go to Club Med (Caravelle). My wife and I have been there twice after at first being leery of Club Med. It's a great place. Spend a week there and then go Bois Joli for a couple of days on Les Saintes. Don't stay at Bois Joli on a weekend, though.
The pool gets kind of crowded with locals. Food is excellent at the restaurant. If you need a place to stay in PTP before or after a flight, stay at Hotel St. John downtown. Clean and comfortable with a wonderful view of the harbor. It's also next to Le Canne de Sucre with excellent food.
RK
