Groceries cheaper on St. John or Tortola?
We'll be staying at Ivan's on Jost for a couple of days, after staying on St. John and taking the ferry via Tortola. Should we shop in St. John or Tortola for groceries (such as eggs, milk, cheese, produce) for the best prices?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Thanks a lot for the replies. I think we have to take the ferry to West End, since that's where the ferry for Jost leaves from. From doing some internet research it sounds like groceries are cheaper and more plentiful at the supermarkets in Tortola, but it also seems like there are no supermarkets in West End. If that's the case we'll probably just end up shopping on St. John.

Hi mp413 - The only grocery store I have used on St. John is the Starfish Market in Cruz Bay. I was very happily surprised by the great variety of items and most prices!! From all I've read on various forums about St. John, other grocery stores on the island are similar.

On St. John, you could walk up from the ferry to the Dolphin market up the hill from the passenger ferry. It's about 4 blocks uphill. I'm not sure you'll love carrying groceries around. Starfish is bigger and more modern but it is another 2 blocks away and up another hill, so you might want to take a taxi rather than schlepp stuff on foot.

Yes! DOLPHIN! I'd just posted about the Starfish Market - but after looking at my map of St. John, I realized I really meant the Dolphin Market! It is smaller than Starfish - but EXCELLENT in selection & price for its size!
