Just returned from Grenada one week ago. Any questions?

Hi, Diane!

My wife and I are going to Grenada (and Carriacou) next week for a ten-day trip.
Recently on Remarq's caribbean discussion group there were postings by a couple of gentlemen who had very negative experiences with people there. Most people who responded to their posts
said that on the contrary people in Grenada were quite friendly. What were your experiences? Where did you stay? What restaurants can you recommend? What activities would you recommend?
Also, any activities and restaurants you
really didn't enjoy would be helpful.

Thanks!

Hi Sarozen,

Glad to try and help. We found the people friendly, but not overly so. I personally think that they are still trying to adjust to tourism and many are not sure of our customs, etc. I don't think it was as friendly as many of the other islands we've been to. We booked into Coral Cove, but changed to the Coyaba. Nice small resort with friendly staff, clean and right on the beach. One thing I must recommend if you are renting a car be sure it is a four wheel drive. We rented a sedan and although we usually tour all the islands we visit, didn't this one because of the roads. Some good, but most filled with large holes! Kind of disappointed we didn't get to travel more. Natives drive VERY fast, as most other islands, but they seemed worse here. If you're a diver, there are many spots to choose from. We aren't, but like beaches (you'll find some natives that will try and sell you their wares) and spent our time there and around the hotel pool. Our vacations are filled with relaxtion only with not many things to do! Restaurants we really enjoyed were the LaDolce Vita, Cicely's, Brown Sugar and Red Crab. There was also a great little place for breakfast, a deli spot just around the corner from the Coyaba but can't remember the name...it was French though. We did find a slight mesquito problem...take a spray with you. If I haven't answered all questions, please feel free to ask again. Hope you have a great time! Diane

I traveled to Grenada in May for 9 days. I found the people to quite genuinely friendly. I talked to many people there. I always enjoy interacting with the native people in the islands, particularly when it's not about a business transaction (buying something) but just trying to get a sense of what they're all about. I stayed at the Coyaba and found the resort to be a very good value for the $$. The staff was quite helpful and friendly. I disagree with the previous poster regarding the condition of the roads in Grenada. We didn't rent a car but were all over the island, north, south, east and west as well as in the rainforest and found the roads to be quite curvy, hilly but reasonably well paved and not full of potholes. The people drive quite fast there but nothing compared to Jamaica. I also went to Carriacou for the day twice. I would love to spend at least a few days there next time that I go to Grenada, and there definitely will be a next time. It was even more laid back than Grenada and has spectacular beaches which you'll probably have to yourself. I'd classify Anse La Roche, Paradise Beach and Sandy Island, all of which are on Carriacou, as some of the prettiest places that I've been in the Caribbean. I would've stayed on Carriacou for at least a night, however, the hotel that I wanted to stay in (Cassada Bay) was closed for May. What hotel are you staying in on Carriacou? Enjoy.

Diane and Carlton--Thanks for the info.
Will give you my impressions of Grenada and Carriacou upon return. We're staying at Silver Beach Resort on Carriacou. Caribee Inn looks nicer but is more expensive and further removed from everything.
