Grenada Hotel Choice - Bel Air or Maca Bana

Hi Everyone!

Thanks to all of your previous posts, my boyfriend and I have chosen Grenada as a last minute vacation spot. (finally a vacation after 2 years!)

Since everything is last minute, a lot of options are booked, but we did manage to get the LAE Cottages for 5 nights. That leaves us with 2 nights to find a place to stay. Of the available options that are different from LAE, we've narrowed it down to Bel Air and Maca Bana.

Bel Air ($350 a night for a 1 bedroom cottage) - seems a bit isolated with no beach, but it might be nice to get away from it all for the tail end of our vacation. Most of the reviews are good, but some are a little negative.

Maca Bana ($550 for a deluxe villa) - this place gets GLOWING reviews. Right on a nice beach, luxury digs, private hot tub on the private deck. Sounds awesome but expensive.

I am really leaning towards Maca Bana, but my boyfriend is hesitant due to the price (think of the extravagant meals and excursions we could have for the extra 400!). Also, since it's last minute, our flights were a bit pricey.

Insights? Advice? What would you do?

Thanks again, and thanks mymoosie for the awesome trip advice (i think we're going to take a flight to Union Island and do a Grenadines sailing trip)!

Thanks!

p.s. we tried to do a bid on sky auction for la luna and they were booked until april! we took a risk and waited on the bid and in that time airfare went up $200 each. If any of you do sky auction and your vacation is close, make sure to call the hotel...

For 2 nights I would splurge on Maca Bana. I have not seen Bel Air, but they do seem isolated.

Did you look into Blue Horizons or True Blue? BH would be great for its proximity to Grand Anse and since it is sister to Spice Island Resort, you can use their beach chairs. TB is a nice, laid back resort.

Give a big Hello to Thaneia, Josepha, & Eva for us!

thanks for your feedback mymoosie!

BH looks good, but I think they are booked. I have an email out to them. I am still leaning towards Maca Bana...I just want to sit in that hot tub!

Try Coyaba too. Great place.

Mac Bana is by the Aquarium, I think. Great location and restaurant. Wonderful beach.

I'm jealous!

Peace, Greenie

For two nights at the end of a trip, I would choose Maca Bana because it is in a better location to sample other restaurants and because you're right there on Magazine Beach.

But if you really want to save the money and stay elsewhere for those two nights, you could consider the following places:

True Blue, Coyaba, and Blue Horizons, as other posters have suggested.

Or try Spice Tree Suites, a place that isn't far from LAE Cottages and is within walking distance of Prickly Bay beach, or La Sagesse, which isn't far from Bel Air, but has the compensating virtues of being on a gorgeous beach with a good restaurant at a fraction of the cost of Bel Air.

thanks for all of the replies! Coyaba and BH are booked and True Blue only has $510 rooms. I'll check out la sagesse and see if they have rooms.

My boyfriend suggested waiting until we get there. What a dummy...this is high season! I might just book Maca Bana and just scrimp on eating out for the next couple of months. haha

Thanks for the info and I will for sure report back. Just one more week of work!

$510 for True Blue? Holy smokes! I don't think I would pay that for TB. Splurge on Maca Bana and rationalize it by saying, we're flying all the way down there, when are we going to get to go back?
