My wife and I will be staying at the Blue Horizons for our third time at the end of February. While we have done a number of tours of Grenada we have not yet ventured out to the nearby islands.
We have decided to spend at least one night on Carriacou to see if this would suit us for a more lengthy vacation. We are not too fussy but would want at least a coffee maker, air conditioning, on-site security especially at night and an on-site or nearby restaurant for meals. I have reviewed a number of sites (including grenadaexplorer) and have identified the following hotels/cottages that may suit our needs...Hotel Laurena, Seaclusion Suites, Sunset Beach, Ade's Dream and Kim's Plaza. Has anyone stayed at any of these locations?
We plan on flying (with SVG) over rather than taking the ferry. Should we be booking flights now or would we be able to secure flights with short notice (we haven't decided exactly which dates we would go) ?
From what I have read recently there has been some new developments in Grenada. Has anyone taken the Discovery Train? I would imagine that this is a big hit with the cruise crowd (given the short period of time they have ashore) but am wondering if this would be something we should consider even though we have been to St. Georges many times. From what I have read it takes you into areas that you would not normally venture during a walk-about.
I have read that the Grand Anse university campus has been sold and that the 'ladies' are no longer serving meals. Is this true? Have they relocated elsewhere?
The underwater sculpture park has had some additions. Has anyone been?

I have stayed at both Ade's Dream and Hotel Laurena, both for one-nighters. They are both very, very basic hotel rooms. I don't recall there being a coffee maker in either hotel, but I may have just overlooked it since I had not planned on fixing coffee. Hotel Laurena had a somewhat nicer room than Ade's Dream, and a newer bathroom. Both are easy walking distance to other restaurants in Hillsborough. Hotel Laurena has an onsite restaurant but I did not dine there.
You can book your flight with SVG as the date gets closer. You don't have to book it now.
Yes, the ladies are no longer serving meals at the Grand Anse university campus. There is a lady that sets up for lunch at the big field by the round-a-bout. I'm not sure where the rest of the ladies relocated. I could have sworn I saw one set up shop at the fruit/veggie market by the entrance of Lance Aux Epines (the colorful little buildings), but I didn't get a chance to check it out further.
Don't miss out on Boots Cuisine, if you have not tried it before!
Another couple of options for accommodation in Carriacou are the Grand View Hotel and Green Roof Inn - both offering a very personal level of service and in-house restaurants.
Both accommodation and flights can be booked at short notice provided that there are no major events taking place in Carriacou at that time - the Annual Maroon & String Band Festival takes place from 29 April to 01 May - and you will need to book in advance if you are thinking of going on or around those dates.
The Discovery Train is proving to be very popular - stops include the forts and museum but it is also a relaxing way to tour the city without having to climb the hills as the city is very hilly.
Havent been to the sculputre park since the additions - went just before and it was still an amazing experience!
