Is there any thing to see if you snorkel at Grand Anse Beach? Has anyone ever stayed at the Blue Orchid Hotel, Hibiscus Hotel or the Siesta Hotel?
I need an inexpensive hotel where I can walk to good snorkeling. Is grenada safe for a single woman? Are there good scuba diving sites less than 60' deep? Any help is appreciated.

The snorkeling's not too good off Grand Anse--water was rough and cloudy when we were there in February. We stayed at the Flamboyant--ok, but not great! To be really honest, I don't consider Grenada real safe and secure, esp. the Grand Anse area--lots of "vendors" on the beach. If you are set on Grenada, check out Secret Harbor or 12 Degrees North (I think that's the correct name)--they are more private. E-mail me if you need more info--I don't know a lot as we were there just a few days prior to a Windjammer trip (now there's a nice vacation for a single person!!!) K Noel
There is supposed to be good diving/snorkeling on Grenada, but Grande Anse won't have it, although there are dive shops there. You might get some information at http://www.grenadaexplorer.com. The small hotels not on Grande Anse would be very nice but I think not inexpensive. You might try True Blue Inn, which is not expensive and has water activities (don't recall if there is snorkelling) but no beach. La Saggesse is another possibility - nice beach. Both are a bit out of the way, however, which would be inconvenient if you wanted to try other restaurants. Safety on Grenada should be of some, but not major, concern. Most beach vendors are not very agressive (more so if they identify you as a cruise ship passenger) and not dangerous, but you don't want to be alone in deserted places especially after dark. People generally are friendly and helpful. The island overall is beautiful with lots of things to explore, which could be done quite safely as part of a tour group or through a taxi driver.
