"Green Flash" on St. Kitts?
Hello, everyone!
I've enjoyed reading your responses to my neverending questions! I definitely plan to check out some, if not all, of the places you've recommended. I'd love to scope out the smaller Inns for future visits! I hear that they have great restaurants.
Here are a few more questions:
Regarding the beaches - In your opinion, which beach has the clearest blue Caribbean water?
Best waves?
Are there any beaches that are unsafe for swimming?
During the Catamaran tours (I think we're leaning toward the Spirit of St. Kitts) what types of meats are served at the beach barbecue? Sorry, I know that sounds picky!
I can't wait to read the answers to my last question: What is the mysterious "Green Flash" that can be seen at sunset?!
I think this is all for now. Thanks for all of your detailed info. I'm so looking forward to this trip!

I can't give you the scientific answer. However, the green flash can be seen - when atmospheric conditions are right - at the moment just as the sun sets into the water. You have to be watching for it - it's just a quick flash. It doesn't occur often but when it does, it's something special to see.

Here is some more info about the infamous green flash.

I live on the next island just north of St. Kitts and see green flashes fairly often. So, my guess would be that if the weather cooperates, you might get lucky.

The "blueness" of the water will depend on weather conditions. If the sky is clear the waters will appear to be a "deep" blue like lapis lazuli. If there are lots of clouds the color of the waters will take on a "steel blue" hue. The amount of waves you encounter on any given day will depend on the prevailing winds, however, the waters on the Caribbean side of the island will be calmer than those on the Atlantic side.

As for the catamaran trip, they usually have BBQ chicken and hot dogs. They also offer yumy pasta side dishes, and a coconut salad from Balahoo (at least on Leeward Island Charters). The BBQ chicken is cooking on a fire pit on the beach while you are sailing over to Nevis. It is so delicious and tender.. finger-lickin' good!
I've never seen the Green Flash, but I'm sure it is really cool when you do!!
I've recently posted some photos from my most recent trip to St. Kitts if you'd all like to see:
