Great hotel (resort), great beach, great food, great stuff to do, easy to get to, with a ten year old!! Impossible?
I've been reading these posts for some time, but I'm still so confused!! We're in Oklahoma, which means we have to make a stop, then make a stop, then get there - yikes, its a long day. But, I'd do it for the most wonderful place on earth...my ten year old son might as well be another adult, he is terrific - no problem. Would like though, a place with suites. We've been to Atlantis, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Jamaica...seen some of Mexico but not much...have been more impressed. OK, so, someone who knows - what do you think? We don't mind paying the $$$, but it needs to be WONDERFUL!! Hoping to go in June, BTW. Thanks for your help in advance...

If you are looking for a vacation that will give you a vacation from being a "parent" all day try Sunsail Club Colonna in Antigua they have the BEST children's club in the world and your 10 year old will have a blast!!

In addition there is not a bad beach on Antigua, with 365 to choose from you are sure to find the perfect one. There are lots of day tours (Eli's eco tour comes highly recommended )to keep you busy if you wish and sightseeing around the island is a must; you can even take a day trip to the Island of Barbuda.

http://www.sunsail.com/

Our kids enjoy Jamaica, not AI.

Negril has some great cottages and hotels on the beach that are inexpensive for 2 bedrooms and a kitchen, living area...maid and COOK.

We've loved Nirvana and Rondel Village...if you don't absolutely need A/C I recommend Nirvana, they ahve kayaks, a great shady property with beautiful flowers everywhere, very safe nad secure, likely other kids around if not there then next door at White Sands.

nirvananegril.com or rondelvillage.com

hey KatW, have been looking at Cap Juluca - wow, that looks terrific. The junior suite, or what do you think? We won't feel out of place with a ten year old along? Don't care about a kids program - he usually just sticks with us. And, have you been to the Ritz in Cancun? At some point, think we want to do that quick trip to the Cancun area, but want something nice, pretty beach, etc. Thanks for being so helpful - - - KC

liza - its been a few years since we've done Jamaica - went without the kid, then - but I can't say I felt all that safe while outside of the resort - what do you think? We generally like to go wandering around. We weren't around Negril though - the places you're talking about - restaurants/stuff to do nearby? I do know the beaches there are pretty -
Thanks for the info - KC

We have taken our grandkids to La Jolla de Mismiloya beach near Puerta Vaharta (sp?). Several pools, kids on-going programs, interesting sights, sail plane, kayak, etc., and still away form the dirty city.

kcsunshine: Four Seasons Nevis could be the spot you've been searching for. We've had many wonderful family vacations there. Great rooms, food, location and staff. Our kids were 10 and 2 years old the first time we vacationed there. We've been back four more times for a reason - great all-around vacation. You mentioned Anguilla. Cap Juluca is visually stunning, there's no doubt. Your 10 year old may find it somewhat dull, however, depending on the length of your trip. My eldest, who was around 11 at the time, found it so. It's tricky business trying to find a great spot that's the right fit for all. Good luck in your search!

Negril is rather different from MoBay or Ocho Rios in that most visitors do NOT stay in walled-in resorts, the 7 mile beach is lined with small hotels, cottages, bars, restaurants and craft tables and the entire beach is public.

We've taken our kids to Negril twice (Jamaica 3x) and never felt unsafe...we walk the beach until midnight or so (kids are in bed by then of course), take taxis after that, we all walk the beach and cliff road by day. You'll be approached to buy stuff but when our kids were walking with us NO ONE offered drugs, and "no thanks" worked great (as long as my kids didn't undermine me by wanting what was offered, LOL!). But that was a minor annoyance, not a safety issue.

There are restaurants just a few feet form the waterline which was awesome for us, the kids swam and played while the grownups had coffe,, we'd call them to the table when food came...most restaurants in Negril are not fussy about shoes or cover ups or even sandy kids

Another area to consider is Treasure Beach - here is a great family trip report from a villa vacation there:

http://www.sunspot.net/travel/bal-tr.jamaica16sep12.story?coll=bal-artslife-travel

...TB is said to be completely hassle free as the tourism there is very small and low key. Everyone in the community knows everyone else, like a small town in the US. We are staying there for hte first time this month, after hearing so many good reports from friends.

Good luck!

Such great help - thanks so much! I'm off to check on all the places you guys have recommended. Now, this is what I call help planning a trip - so many places I wouldn't have thought of. After I've looked at all this, I'll check back in - any other thoughts are much appreciated. - KC
