Great Exhuma with Family - Suggestions??

My family and I are traveling to Great Exhuma over Labor Day weekend. We are staying at February Point and traveling with a variety of ages (from 60 down to 1 year old). We all love to snorkel (guys scuba dive), fish, beach/pool with kids. We are curious about resturants in the area and any activity suggestions. This is the first time I have traveled out of the country with my kids (3 year old and 1 year old), so I am a little worried about finding what I need for them (ie groceries) while I am there. Also are local resturants going to be kid friendly? We were planning on utilizing some of the Four Season's resources, but have just learned that they have closed. Any suggestions are Greatly Appreciated!!

Four Seasons would have been about 45 minute drive anyway!

You're about 2-3 miles from the main part of Georgetown. There is a small supermarket there with most of the stuff you would need.

The best restaurant is the one at Club Peace N Plenty. All restaurants I would consider kid friendly, as the island is pretty laid back and casual.

From Club PP, you can take a water taxi to Stocking Island, which has terrific beaches. They have a beach restaurant there with excellent hamburgers and hot dogs.

Do not miss Sunday pig roasts at the Chat N Chill. the water taxi leaves all day from downtown.

February Point is really nice. The pool, unless they've built another one, is pretty small. They have boat rentals, which are highly recommended to explore the cays and beaches, they are stunning! If you don't like venturing on your own, try Starfish Excursions or Captain Lewless (he always has breakfast at Club PP Beach Hotel) 1 is not too young to be on boats, the water is usually calm and 1 year old will love it!

You can probably bring a cooler with special foods-call your airline to ask.

Do you have specific items your kids need? If so, I would bring them with you. I'm going to Exuma next week and I'm expecting the grocery carries basic items.

I'd be happy to check to see if the store carries something you need if you like. I hate lugging something in a suitcase if I don't need to so let me know.

Thank you for your help/suggestions. My only experience with grocery shopping in the islands was a teeny little store on Harbour Island 10 years ago. We were lucky to find bread. If my daughter is still using formula, I have already planned to bring that (and diapers). If there is a decent grocery on the island I am far less concerned. blanoma - thank you for your suggestions. We live near the water and yes my 1 year old LOVES the boat!! We can't wait to see all the island has too offer!

Hello!
I was just in Great Exuma a couple weeks ago. I took a drive through February Point and it looked very nice. It's right on a dock where you can catch a boat (might cost money) over to Stocking Island where the famous Chat and Chill bar/restaurant is. There's also a free ferry at Club Peace and Plenty, a short drive away. Stocking Island is a small island with no cars and fantastic beaches. You can only reach it by boat. The bar is very charismatic, sort of a "margaritaville" vibe. They tell you not to wear your shoes, big change from New York!

The food is good, my friends had the ribs and raved about them. Also, they have a giant pig roast every Sunday that all the locals go to. This is the best party on the island apparently, so I would not miss that. Kids are definitely welcome. The owners have an adorable little boy who will want to play, as he's super friendly.

We ate at the Club Peace and Plenty and the food was good, but standard. There's a new restaurant at Beach Inn of Exuma that looked good, and they have a big Taco Tuesday party. The restaurant at Grand Isle, I think it was called La Pallapa, was also good, but again, you're not going to find gourmet food anywhere on the island. Grand Isle (next to the Four Seasons campus) is about a 45 minute drive from where you are.

The best meal I had on the island was at a bar called Cheater's. Would probably be a 10 minute drive from February Point. There's no atmosphere whatsoever, but the food was amazing. Restaurants will be kid-friendly because almost all of the food is deep-fried. There will always be cracked conch on the menu (basically chicken strips but with a really bland fish). Here are some pictures of the food I ate while there: http://eatyourchow.com/post/10999908...dining-roundup

The best part of my trip was chartering a boat and visiting the 365 mostly uninhabited Exuma cays. I would recommend getting a guide for a day trip and going to see giant starfish, iguanas, swimming pigs, and dolphins. We used Patterson Smith, and he was excellent. His number is 242-464-1720. Overall, snorkeling in the Bahamas is not great. You can definitely do it, but don't expect to be blown away. We went up to Thunderball Grotto (from the James Bond movie), and you can swim right into the cave and do snorkeling there. I tried it but you definitely need to know what you're doing.

Let us know what you end up doing in the Exumas! Of the islands I've been to, it is by far my favorite.
