Grand Cayman for honeymoon??? Would appreciate any info!!!!

My fiance and I are planning to take our honeymoon at Grand Cayman in late June 1999. I was wondering about the all-inclusives- Spanish Bay Reef Resort, and Beach Club Colony. Another option may be to stay at Morritt's since I have an aunt and uncle with a time share there. My only concern about Morritt's is that it may be too far from the attractions (Stingray City, Georgetown etc). I would appreciate any input on the above accomodations or other suggestions on where to stay. We plan on doing some diving and snorkeling, dining and relaxation on the beach. Any tips on other things we must do or see?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
If you want a neat sidetrip, go to Little Cayman by plane and rent a car for a few days (2?). You'll be really pleasantly surprised that its still hardly developed, except for a great restaurant/condo/pool/dive shop area right at "the airport" (!) We had a great time on that island! Definitely a secluded place, for a honeymoon from the honeymoon! And Congratulations!
My husband and I stayed at Spanish Bay in 1996 and would never stay there again. We loved Grand Cayman, but the resort was awful. First of all, it is definitely off the beaten track. Kind of far from Georgetown. We wouldn't have minded if it were easy to get into town, but it wasn't. The resort will let you borrow a jeep, but for only three hours. We were able to book a trip to Stingray City which was a fantastic experience. Second, the food was not good at all. There was virtually no selection, and what there was was mediocre. Third, the resort is advertised as having a beautiful coral reef and beach. The beach was filthy. The water on that side of the island is choppy. At the time, no one could dive to the reef if they had wanted to. Fourth, the jacuzzis were also filthy.
We did get to see Beach Club Colony. We convinced a resort employee to drive us there to use its beach (Spanish Bay guests are allowed to do it). The employee said he would pick us up at 2:00pm, but never showed! We ended up walking into Georgetown and exploring, but had to pay for a pretty expensive cab ride back. Anyway, Beach Club Colony, right on Seven Mile Beach, looked very nice. Email me if you want more information.

My husband and I honeymooned there in 1996. We stayed at Rum Point. It was beautiful; private, secluded beach and right next door to the Hyatt Restaurant. You can take the ferry to Georgetown. We rented a jeep, as Rum Point was on the other side of the island. But it was a beautiful ride to anywhere. There were a few out of the way restaurants we ate at that if we had stayed in Georgetown, we would have missed. We spent a lot of our time on 7 Mile Beach/Georgetown, but it was nice to go back to the seclusion of Rum Point.

If you want any specifics, please e-mail me.
I was in Grand Cayman for the day (off a cruise ship) and really enjoyed 7 mile beach. we found that the best area was furture up the beaqch away from Georgetown. I am not possitive of the name, but I think the Colony beach Club was available to cruise passengers (shore excursion). If I am right, deffinitely DON'T stay there!! It was swarming with people. We took the bus further up 7 mile beach, by Villas of the Galleon, and had the beach to ourselves.

Hi Kim - just visited GC in May. I would highly recommend Capt. Marvin's snorkel trip. They take you to four stops - one where you can snorkel and get your own conch shell, one at a coral reef, a stop at Stingray City, and then another reef stop. It was excellent. Lunch is served - they stop at a little beach and we were fed Mahi Mahi plus our conch was made into an appetizer. I would do this trip again in a second - and it was a bargain - the entire day plus lunch was only $45. Email me if you would like specifics.
Kim,

Spend the Money and stay at at the Westin. It has the best location, service, restaurants, and amenities. The beach and ocean are picture perfect. No other Grand Cayman Hotel/ Resort compares. If you decide not to stay at the Westin, you should at least stay on Seven Mile Beach. For the best snorkeling, go to Eden Rock at Paradise Divers, Cemetary reef is ok, but Eden Rock is much better. For restaurants try Ferdinands at the Westin, the Lobster Pot restaurant downtown, The Wharf (although very crowded) and for a romatic dinner try the old House. (I think that name is right) For lunch, try the Hog Sty downtown. If you have any questions at all, just e-mail me.
