Grand Cayman cruise stop, best way to beach?

We are tendering in GC during our cruise for the day, and I am looking for the least expensive way to get to the beach. We are 3 adults and 3 children, and just want to relax and go swimming while in GC. Any suggestions? We aren't afraid of public transportation. Thanks.

Just got back from Grand Cayman 2 days ago. Taking a taxi is going to be your best bet. This was my 5th trip to Cayman (during a period of 15 years). There has been some massive beach erosion since my last visit (2 years ago). Cemetary Beach is quite nice and there's some decent snorkeling. You have to swim out a bit to do so, though. Have fun!

Cemetary Beach (part of Seven Mile) is about a 15-20 minute ride from Georgetown. There are other public beaches on the way, but Cemetary is a nice spot, has some shade, and you can snorkel, swim, or take a long walk down the beach. First time to the island?

You actually have a couple options. Taxis are available, but you'll pay a lot more than you would for the public trans buses. I'm guessing a taxi from town to Cemetary Reef will be around $20 each way. The public transportation buses (which are actually small mini-vans, run $1.50 to go up and down the main drag along 7MB. I'd say Cemetary reef is about 5-6 miles north of town. The down side of Cemetary reef is that there are no facilities there. You might want to hang out in front of the Holiday Inn where there is facilities, and a beach bar/snack bar right on the beach. The snorkeling is much better at Cemetary, but the HI beach has a few more comforts. All depends on whats most important to you.

It is our first time. I'm actually thinking of heading to the Hyatt, as I'm a Platimum Passport member. I'm thinking if I ask very nicely, I can use their facilities (lounge chair maybe). Has anyone ever done or heard of people doing this?

Nina, I would think your success in getting the Hyatt to let you do this would depend on how crowded it is. But once you see how little real estate each chair occupies, you might want to have another option. Cemetary reef is a good, relatively uncrowded spot. Are the the Nantucket Nina? If so, you are going to visit my other favorite island (have a house in Sconset). We are leaving for Grand Cayman the day after Christmas.

x, Yep, I'm the Nantucket nina. I did some investigating and cemetary does look nicer than the Hyatt's beach, so that's what we'll try for. Have a great time in GC.

We'll be in Ack first week of July, still my favorite island of all.
