Grand Bahama?

Hey friend Fodorites. I could use a little advice. I am considering taking a short trip to Grand Bahama island in November or December. I am hesitant though because I have never traveled solo outside the USA before and am not sure how clean and safe the island is. I am a single guy looking for some beach time and fun in the sun. I have read a couple good topics about Grand Bahama but I need some more before I get serious about it. I wouldn't be staying more than five days and am on a pretty tight budget. I don't want to blow my bank account up with a short trip. In other words, I don't want to spend over $1500.00 on this trip. I'm also considering a couple other places to visit. I'm looking at Naples, Fl. No passport necessary there and I've heard it's really nice. I'm not looking to do any scuba diving but mainly swimming and snorkeling. I'll probably do a little shopping as well and general touring type activities. Thanks for any info anyone might have on Grand Bahama island and/or south Florida, Naples and Florida Keys.
