Grace Bay, Tirks & Caicos---Simply the best!
Returning for the 5th time to Ocean Club West on Grace Bay we wondered, should we try something new? Absolutely not! Actually, this was one of our best beach vacations ever.
We've been going to the islands since 1990 and when we found TCI we stopped looking. Grace Bay beach is SIMPLY THE BEST!
It helped that for this trip we had the most consistenly great weather. It rained one afternoon at 4pm and the rest of the days were in the 80's with 70's at night.
In times past we did it all, snorkel, scuba, jet skis, parasail, banana boat, sail, etc. This time it was a relaxling vacation, we didn't do too much. I was on the beach by 8:30am and you couldn't drag me away except for lunch. So, stare at the sea, read, go in the sea, go in the pool, talk to the people around me, order a mango margarita, AND REPEAT!
MDH golfed in the morning and was back in time for lunch. The weather was so perfect that he actually enjoyed the beach in the afternoon and that isn't his usual thing.
So this report won't have much exciting in it and will sound boring to some. but for us it was just right.
We rented from a private owner at OCW. We like the low rise buildings for easy access to the beach & pool. The river pool is attractive with quiet corners to seek out. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with the restaurant right next to the beach. There are always enough umbrellas & beach chairs for all. I like it here because it's very easy for me to be alone here while MDH golfs.
We did rent a car but the location of OCW is excellent for walking to the IGA and many restaurants. We rented a car from Grace Bay Car Rentals for the second time. The first 3 trips we didn't have a car. They also were helpful in making dinner reservations for us before we arrived.. Anyone who has tried to get into Coco Bistro will know that this is very helpful.
Lunch was quite often right at OCW. The menu is small, the food is good, and the view from the oceanside deck is outstanding. We did get away to "Da Conch Shack" , "Horse Eyed Jack's" and "Boogaloo's" for lunch. We had been to the 1st two before and always enjoy our time there. "Boogaloo's" was a different story. A nice, casual setting but the food wasn't very good. On top of not being good, it was cold. When the server returned and we told her it was cold she said "sorry" and walked away. Later, the mgr. wanted to give us more food, but we opted to pay for it and leave. I guess we'll take that place off our list for next time.

On to dinner, and we had great experiences---some repeats and some new places.
COCO BISTRO---always our favorite. We made a reservation thru the car rental company 2 weeks ahead of time as this place is packed every night and for good reason. The setting in the palm trees is exceptional, the food and service top knotch.
I had an excellent salad with pears & nuts followed by my favorite rack of lamb. The presentation and flavors were perfect. Their lamb comes from Colorado. MDH had a salad and a rib eye steak with fries, again excellent.
We both had dessert, coconut pie and banana fritters along with cappuccino. With the weather being warm, I chose a crisp, cold French Rose with dinner.
This was our most expensive dinner at $245 including tip. A 10% tip is put on the bill but of course we added more for Josephina's great service. This restaurant is so well run that it outshines many others on the island.
BAY BISTRO---another repeat for us. Another beautiful setting overlooking the beach. Again we reserved ahead of time. We sat on the veranda as all the garden tables were taken already.
MDH loves the roasted chicken with mashed potatoes here. We had caesar salad and then I ordered Red Snapper, blackened with a curry sauce. It was very different, snappers I've had before were thin & light. This fish was about 2 inches thick and was more like a sea bass in looks and texture which I actually liked better. I had some cold pinot grigio with dinner.
We finished up with cappuccino and shared some home made coconut and rum raisin ice cream. About $135 including tip.
The service was prompt but somewhat unfriendly. It was a very busy night and I think the server was a bit overwhelmed. That said, we did enjoy our meal and will return.

Here's a few photos. I've been having trouble posting photos lately, but if this works I'll post more.

On to another gret restaurant----
LE BOUCHON---in Regent Village
As we travel to France every year, we had to try this new Bistro. It lived up to all of our expectations.
I loved the blackbean soup. I tore the garlic bread that came with it into pieces and added it to the soup--yummmm! The salad was the best of our trip. It had so much variety--delicious. The steak w/peppercorn sauce and frittes were tender and flavorful. Along with a cold white wine, it took us back to our favorite Bistros in Paris. Creme Brulee and Tarte Tatin for dessert was ordered with I must say, THE BEST coffee. The service was also excellent
Congratulations to the owner, mgr., chef,& servers. You are a great addition to the Grace Bay dining scene.
