Going to Tobago April 98
Hi
We are going to Tobago at the end of April, staying at the Kariwak Village which is close to the airport. We've gone room only because we plan to hire a car and eat out while we're there. We like snorkelling and quiet beaches, can any one recommend a good place to go? We'd like to also go to the rain forest, do you think we need to take walking boots, this might seem like a strange question but we've not been to the Caribbean before! Do you also have any suggestions for good places to eat? Are there supermarkets to buy lunch, water etc? Thanks Sonia

There is a good size supermarket on the road out of Crown Point and their prices are very good. The Kariwak has good food, we have had dinner there several times. The best reefs and snorkeling are on the north end of the island at Speyside or Charlotteville. E-mail me for more info.

Sonia: I haven't been to Tortola but hope to go someday. I was recently in the rain forest in St. Kitts and I would imagine it would be similar. It's like walking in the deep forest but it can get a bit wet from time to time. Let me know how the trip was. Have a good time.. Fran

Tobago was a wonderful vacation site for our family (boy-11, girl-9) in Oct. 94. The Karawak's rooms were clean, the open air restaurent had good food and entertainment (a few small lizards and colorful birds roaming about added to the atmosphere). There were not many planes and minimal noise in the three days we were there.
We rented a Jeep and travelled the island. There are coves along the southwest side of the island which offer fair snorkeling. The rainforest walk was fun (It poured the whole two hours we were inside it), with lush vegatation and a few crabs crossing our path. You need to have sneakers as it can be very slippery.
I hear that Tobago is becoming more popular, with building going on. There wasn't much in entertainment and few tourists (a plus in my view). Have a wonderful, relaxing time!

We were in Tobago last August. Spent time at the Blue Waters Inn, in Speyside. Wonderful for snorkeling, and the restaurant at the inn is very good...I assume it's open to the public.
If you really want to get into rain forest, try to arrange a few days on Trinidad, and go to Asa Wright Nature Center, in Arima. The trip by car will give you an awesome sense of rain forest, and the nature center has several good trails; however you nust go with guides...they know where the snakes /are (no...I'm not kidding)
