Going to Antigua...I Hate to fly!

Hello,
We are planning a trip to Antigua. My travel agent told me that only small planes fly into Antigua and that there is no other way to get there.
Is this true?
Thanks for any honest answers.
Mary

It would depend on where you are flying from. There are a few direct flights but for many Caribb islands from many airports means a stop in San Juan and a change to the turbo props.

Your travel agent is hallucinating! 747s land here regularly! We are a regional hub for BA. Even the Concorde has landed here on occasion.

Don't quote me, but last time I checked I believe big planes to Antigua included:
American from Miami
Continental from Newark
BWIA from JFK
The large planes fly into Antigua everyday and some even make is a stop on the way to/from other destinations. Maybe from your airport there are no direct flights?

As you can see by the other posts, the airport runway handles large planes. It really depends what location you leave from. AA has large planes to San Juan, then a 48 seater(more seat and leg room then Continetials 733!!!)
So for you and some of us there is not much choice!

Now I could be wrong but I went to Antigua three years ago and the plane that took me there and brought me back was pretty darn big. Your travel agent is thinking of somewhere else, Anguilla maybe?

I think it depends on where you are coming from. We had to fly from Mpls. to somewhere to San Juan and then take an American Eagle, which is what my husband and I call a "Prop Job" into Antigua. I did lots of research and could not find any other way.
