Girl's Senior trip. rent villa. safe&very fun. WHERE?

Well, this year my three best girlfriends and I will be graduating and turning 18. We will most likely be going sailing in the British Virgin Islands in the summer(may-july time) with my dad. But as our senior trip, we want to depart from my family and stay somewhere in the Caribbean. We are thinking of renting a house/villa/condo for a week around under $2,000. We want a beautiful laid back beach and jungle area of coarse.. tiki bars and taking vespas around to towns... but we also want to be around young people, fun, nightlife, and parties! We are not looking for a main-stream resort feel, we'd rather be a few steps off on the beaten trail(and not a U.S. territory)! But still safe.

so i would love any suggestions of areas and islands that sound something like this! thank you so much, i hope to hear back!

ps. otherwise we're skipping sailing and renting a house in Santorini, Greece for a week! and staying in athens a few days. which is expensive for a short time, but in reach, and a dream come posibly true!.. or maybe corsica! haha. we're a social amd adventerous bunch!

hi kiersten, welcome to fodors. i hate to burst your bubble but i doubt you'll find anyone to rent a house to you at 18. by tiki bars i assume you mean booze and again i don't know where they will serve you except mexico.
on the other hand if your dad, or someone else's, will sign on the dotted line you might like isla mujeres - small island off cancun.
very laid back. plenty of not fancy bars/restaurants. snorkeling is the main diversion. everyone rents golf carts to get around >these are oh so safe when you've had a few to many!
or you might try to find a condo/villa around playa del carman. pdc is more of a party area and would give you access to lots of activities.
a good site to check out the area is locogringo.com
p.s. a house in greece? i'd go now.
p.p.s. have you considered getting on a cruise? i don't know how they deal with under 21 drinking but you might find a nice deal leaving from san juan or charlotte amalie.

why thank you, im a newbie!
my bubble isnt bursted.. i figure if its not US owned, their regulations are different.. like mexico and costa rica. plus we dont look our age already. ha
also i am counting on rentals being allowed with parental permission. my fingers are crossed.
thank you sooo much for the suggestions! im looking them up and they are both big options already. isla mujeres almost seems like more of a party, but what do i know!
with greece, im thinking that with a longer trip when im older i could get more out of my money in europe. and i have thought of a cruise but it feels too confined, this is our break out trip, ha.
sorry about the long response, im just excited.
thanks again!!

I'd suggest the Caribbean coast of Mexico outside Cancun. Isla Mujeres and Playa del Carmen fit what you describe generally.

I would not let my kids go out in Mexico!!!And believe me they love to party. They partied until dawn every day in Europe this past summer and I had no problem with it. My daughter’s grad trip is coming up this March to the Mayan Riviera. The condition that she is allowed to go is that she is not allowed to leave the resort. I know that it’s mostly fine but God forbid they have an issue with the Mexican locals or police they are in a really difficult situation. Driving on Vespas up and down that highway? No way!! Maybe Isla Muheres or Cabo would be different.
She is also looking for something with her few best friends who are not able to go to this “school” trip. If all of you will be over 18 by the trip, think about a Club Med. Lots of fun. Not your typical resort feel.
Good luck!
