Girl's 40th Birthday Group Trip to Puerto Rico
Hello! I have never stayed in PR before, but have flown through to go to the islands. We have a group of about 8-12 of us that want to travel there next March, 2011. Does anyone have suggestions for where to stay? We want to mostly beach it and relax, but also do some sight-seeing. We're looking at 4 nights or so for a fun getaway for a bunch of 30-somethings (some of who are turning 40)! Any recommendations would be helpful since I'll be planning the trip. I think a resort may be preferable although if we can find some bigger rentals, we might stay together in a cottage or something...
Thanks so much in advance for your help!

Probly want to stay in either Condado or Isla Verde area of San Juan - larger hotels are on the beach - look at places like La Concha, Conrad Plaza, Marriot etc..
Beach along those area are more like Miami beaches.
Consider a car rental for a day or so, so you can check out El YUnque Rainforest and Luquillo Beach (one of the nicest beaches on mainland PR) and also conside a Bio Bay tour if moon phase is good.
You could hop in a taxi to check out Old San Juan - great place to wander around and lots of places to eat and drink
Check out here for more info on PR http://www.visit-the-coqui.com/first-time-visitors/
and this site has a good video review http://tv.gogalavanting.com/?p=6
have fun

I agree that for a four day trip, you should look into either the Condado or Isla Verde areas. The Isla Verde hotels are just a couple of miles from the airport. The beach in Isla Verde is wide and long -great walking beach. I would suggest that you take a look at El San Juan Hotel and Casino (It is a Hilton property now) and the Intercontinental, which is right next door to El San Juan Hotel. There is a lot of nightlife going on at El San Juan. I think it would be a lot of fun for a group of thirty-somethings.
The Condado area is a little further from the aiport and closer to Old San Juan. You may want to check out the Renaissance, which is a new hotel (only a couple of years old). The Conrad Condado Plaza is also worth a look. The only drawback to that hotel is that there really isn't much of a beach in front of it. Just a tiny beach to the side. The rest of the property is oceanfront but there is a rockwall that goes the length of the property.
Hotel prices will be pretty high in March.
I go to San Juan every year and have stayed at a number of the hotels there, so I would be happy to answer any more specific questions you have.

We stayed in El Dorado at the Hyatt.. OMG it was fabulous.. about 20 min from downtown... but secluded.. we enjoyed BOTH Hyatt Properties, we stayed ocean front on the quiet one, and headed to the bigger one for the river pool, slide, restaurants and casino! Beach wise, don't waste your time.. We were in the ocean about 2 min then just did the pool the whole time!
We had a car, so headed to Old San Juan one day, and to El Junque forrest the next...
It was very relaxing!
Have fun!
