Getting to Grand Bahama Island- options?

We are taking a quick, last minute trip to Freeport, The Bahamas. Our dates are slightly flexible, although ideally we'd go from Saturday, March 14 - Wednesday, March 18 (otherwise the trip will have to be even shorter than it already is). Unfortunately, flights are over $600 RT because of the Saturday flying.
My question: does anyone know of a way around paying this amount? I have looked on every possible website (expedia, kayak, cheapoair, etc, etc) and they're all similarly priced. My thought was, could I fly from Boston to Nassau then get to GBI another (cheaper) way? Or perhaps Boston to Miami or Ft Lauderdale, then onto GBI? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There is a boat from Ft. Lauderdale to Grand Bahama Island. I took it years ago and it was fine.

You could also try Spirit Airlines out of Detroit or USA 3000 airlines out of Detroit or Cleveland. You'd have to get to Detroit then somehow, but those two airlines have cheap flights to Florida and the Bahamas.

There's no "cheap" way of getting from Nassau to GBI.. You'd have to fly (wasting yet another 1/2 day). Flights run about $250pp.

In the 600 RT did that cover the Continental shuttle that goes down there? Spirit or other Caribbean airlines are worth a look. Does Liat service the area?

Thank you for your ideas. Unfortunately, Spirit Air was not cheap for me (coming from Boston). And the boat from Ft Lauderdale was at an inconvenient time (early morning departure would mean getting to FL a day early and late departure from GBI meant staying in FL another night).
After some investigative work I was able to get two RT tickets for $900 (total) by purchasing them separately thru Orbitz.com and travelocity.com. Also, we won't get stuck anywhere- weather permitting.
Thanks again!
