Getting From St. Martin To St Barths

What's the best way to get to the island from St Martin (SXM) and how much does it cost? I checked the St. Barths sites and they give a few airlines but the websites all look like they were made in 1996 by a high school kid and I don't trust/understand the info on them. Can somebody help me out with suggestions and ballpark costs?

Did you try Windward Island Airways?

http://www.fly-winair.com/

I have only flown by private charter to St. Barth's, but I can safely say that "WinAir" is pretty much the safest commercial airline in this area. They've been around a LONG time and they have a flawless safety record, although they aren't always the most "timely" airline. I fly them regularly to St. Maarten, Saba, and St. Kitts.

Good luck. Your other choices are the other commercial airlines you've seen, private charter, or catamaran (which I don't suggest).

this is a great question, htanks for posting it. I will be in Anguilla and wishto go to St. Barths for the day. People say the ferry is a great way to go (from SXM) and takes about 45 minutes and leaves St. Barths at 5:00 to return. I am not too sure though, I am assuming if you get a rough water day that ride can be a little tough!

Then again once you get to your vacation destination, it is sure hard to leave it for the day!

The ferry can be rough, but it will depend on sea conditions. I would recommend flying. If I recall correctly it was around $100 rt the last time I took it, but may go up on season. If you go from the Grand Case airport (St. Bart's Commuter) you will save the $20 departure tax.

You can get to St.Barths by plane either from Julianna or from Grand Case airport. We've done the Grand Case route many times, once booked through our hotel and other times by going directly to the airport to book. It cost us about $100 - $120/person ($US) but this included a car on St.Barths as well. Different airlines make the trip LIAT, WINAIR, AIR GUADALUPE. The flight is quick; but rather spectacular as you come over the harbour of Gustavia, up over a hill (mtn?) and steeply down on the runway which ends on St.Jean beach. We have great video footage taken from the beach of planes arriving and departing. Going by ferry takes a bit longer...45 to 90 min depending upon where you depart. It can be rough on the way over but is pretty smooth on the return. In Marigot just 3 weeks ago I checked the price going from the harbourfront; if I remember correctly it was about $65 US return. You would want a car to drive around St.Barths.

Karen

Look up Winair on the web. They used to have direct flights. Flying time would be about 15 minutes.

I just made reservations for round trip flights from St. Maarten to St. Barths, and the new rate with the Euro in place came to $140.00 US, each. I had trouble getting ahold of the Winair people on St. Barths(no reply to 4 e-mail requests),so I phoned their operation in St. Maarten and had no problems. I had tickets in hand 2 days later. Also, the 800 number listed for Winair is a waste of time. You're referred all over the place, and never get where you want to be.
