Hi dubby235
I travelled on my own to Freeport-Lucaya last December/January and I'm not clear whether you're just looking for generally interesting hangouts or hoping to meet other singles?
It's generally a pretty tranquil island, so if you want to see people, you'll want to go to Port Lucaya Marketplace, probably the most consistently busy place I saw on the island (quite touristy but I thought had a certain charm nevertheless). Here there are a number of charming non-chain restaurants and cafes(I wish I could remember the name of one lovely place with outdoor seating opposite the casino). Billy Joe's was a shack with a local musician, outdoor benches on Lucaya Beach right near Port Lucaya Marketplace serving up Bahamian favourites like conch salad, conch fritters... very low-key and unpretentious.
Signing up for scuba diving with UNEXSO was a highlight, not cheap but I felt quite professional, an activity like that may be a way to meet people. I personally enjoyed the opportunity to find peaceful spots on the beach that felt like they were "my own". I cycled out to these spots and Garden of the Groves using the bike path on Midshipman Road; not exactly a "hangout" but a peaceful, beautiful spot on the island with a friendly restaurant. The owners of the B&B where I stayed recommended going to a fish fry on Wednesday (it's at Taino Beach perhaps?) for the experience and some of the other guests went & enjoyed that.
I hope you enjoy Grand Bahama! Daniel
