Haven't been there, but my husband and I have always dreamed of going there. Last month he played golf in the Turks and Caicos with someone who had been recently who said he thought it was the most overrated place he'd ever been. Food was incredibly expensive and not that good, he really didn't think the resort was worth the $$. I have also heard complaints about the lack of Caribbean ambience. I too would like to hear others' feedback as we were all ready to go there but have been discouraged from doing so. The resort also got a scathing review in the Wall Street Journal, I am thinking it is not meeting the high expectations which result from the high prices!

The Four Seasons is a beautiful resort, with all of the luxuries one would normally expect from the Four SEasons. However, I can see where one would see the lack of caribbean ambience. It is on a beautiful gold sand beach, Pinney's beach, with the world-famous "Sunshine's Bar" just outside the hotel boundaries.

If you are looking for a more "caribbean" experience, I would check out Nisbet's Plantation Inn. It is on a lovely beach that also has some of the island's best snorkeling. I have heard the food here is also world-class, and you can get a meal plan. I think I saw somewhere that they have summer and honeymoon packages. I believe their website is www.nisbet.com.

I would not hesistate to stay at either hotel, but for the money, I would definitely choose Nisbet.

There was a review in the Friday weekend edition of The Wall Street Journal, I cannot remember the details, but it was not all good. I do recall the childrens program and how busy the pool area can be. It also caters to corporate groups, this place is not small 200 beds, I would not want to be there as a guest, as I really feel that can detract for the rest of us. We were At Caneel Bay, and they had a group during high season, that made life difficult, such as restaurant reservations and their hospitality tables set up near the beach pavilion. So it is now off my list, there are many other places to go and this will not be one I will try. Unless you are part of a corporate boondoogle or play golf. Four!

The Four Seasons is # 1 on Conde Nast's Hotlist. It is a wonderful resort beautiful. I stayed there for my anniversary and it was worth every penny. Perfect place for a honeymoon.

Altho I have not read the WSJ article and would love it, have a friend who visits there and he said the "new" place is spectacular. Didn't go into much detail as their beach isn't one that says "OH WoW!" and it seems more of a "golfer's heaven" and would be a spot that I might consider after I have been to all the OH Wow Beach places!! Nevis is a wonderful island tho!

To answer the ladies question, The 4 Seasons is very nice and very pricey. October and November is still the hurricane season. Hurricane lenny, 2 season ago leveled the place and destroyed the beach. That was the second week in November.

Thank you so much for all of your help and advice! I think that we have a great deal of discussing to do! For the price of some of these resorts in the Caribbean, I think we are going to consider Hawaii, since it doesn't seem to be that much more, and I really don't want to chance having my honeymoon ruined by bad weather.

Hurricane Lenny was wrong way Lenny and highly unusal that late in the season, around Nov.17. Alot of hotels close for part of September and October. All are open in November, that should give you some stats. The risk is low!

The primary criticism in the WSJ article was that there were way too many kids, making way too much noise.
I don't recall if the writer gave the dates of his or her trip, but I would think that kids would not be much of a problem if you avoid all school vacation periods (Christmas, President's Week, April break, and summer vacation).
Also, I think people who have very little tolerance for children should select an adults-only resort - there are plenty of nice ones in the Caribbean.

Chazz, At the risk of opening a can of worms here, there are no longer plenty of adults-only places in the Caribb. Most of the "high end" resorts have responded to the economic pressure and popularity of bringing the children along. And it seems that parents no longer subscribe to the schools' calendar by which to predict the "height" of family guests. Somes times and holidays are obvious but, parents have no problem pulling kids out of school nowadays as fits their needs. I do wish that there were the options, especially during season, where one could return to the "traditional" classic resorts and not have to worry about Sceaming Sally disturbing everyone within a 5 mile radius with her tantrums and Whining Willy sitting at the candlelite dinner or Bouncing Baby crying all nite in the room/unit adjacent. Parents may think their "little darlin'" is just ever so perfect but sometimes the antics are not cute to those who are looking to rejeuvinate, recuperate and enjoy a peaceful vacation! I'm sure you have the same reaction that I had when I read your post when I tell you to take your kids and go to the traditonal family spots - and there are plenty of nice ones in the Caribb - and leave those "adult preferred" spots to the adults!! Everyone would be much happier!

We travel regularly Nevis Four Seasons with 2 children. They're well behaved as young kids should be and we watch them like hawks. We've been to the other "family spots"(beaches, fdr and boscobel) but quite frankly Rosewood and Four Seasons do a much better job of pleasing everyone so a level of satisfaction. Granted not every parent is as considerate as we think we are, however there are plenty of adults that
need to learn some leasons too. (the can is open)

You're right, Karen, there aren't as many adults-only places as there used to be.
The original post in this thread was about a honeymoon destination, and from everything I've read on the Web, the Sandals resorts (still no kids allowed!) are pretty hard to beat for honeymoons.
Late Oct. to early Nov. is the tail end of hurricane season, so farther south in the Carib. (St. Lucia?) might be a bit safer.
Frankly, I'm always amazed that so many parents with young children have enough money to take the whole family to the Caribbean. Whatever happened to trips to the Jersey Shore?

Whew! From Nevis and Four Seasons to the Jersey Shore!! LOL What a comparison! Frankly, I see Caribb vacations advertised for a whole lot less than some time at the Shore! But would love it if they all went to the Caribb leaving my Jersey Shore less jammed in the summer, restaurants that I can still enjoy rather than waiting until Fall when I can go again and room on the beach!!! LOL I just can't see me surviving in the "adult camp" atmosphere of the Sandals' adults only and going to an island and not experiencing the island but doing a/i! I still love those "old fashioned" laid back "upscale" spots and, even in the ol' days, you occassionally ran into children (often accompanied by their nanny) but they were not the norm! Parents need time for themselves but then I guess with both of 'em working to afford those rates (many places do the kids eat/stay free, extra room half price, etc etc), it's the only time they have to spend with the kids - so they take them and surprisingly let some stranger take care of 'em in a "camp" more times than not!! Go figure! And, of course, that is NOT to say that all children are BAD children - it's the ignorant parents not the children's fault that they don't know better and behave the way they do! And I do have to admit that the sand next to my chair is ever so more appealing - LOL - it never fails. They never play by the parents but under/over/ontop of me!! I am sure that some marketing exec will notice someday that there is a whole bunch of us out there (post children or seeking some romantic solitude or are we just dying off?) and will again come to the rescue!! I did take my son to the Caribb when he was small - to appropriate places - and now that he is an adult he can go with anticipation and enjoy all the places he has heard about for years!
