forthcoming novel featuring Jamaica

I just read an advance reading copy of a novel called The Pirate's Daughter by Margaret Cezair-Thompson, most of which is set in the Portland parish of Jamaica. It tells the story of two women--the young woman who falls in love with Errol Flynn and then bears his child, and resulting daughter of that union. The real star of the novel is Jamaica, however, with beautiful descriptions of the sleepy northern coast before such luminaries as Noel Coward, Ian Fleming and Flynn settled there, following through to the Norman Manley era. Anyone who loves Jamaica and Port Antonio in particular should enjoy this read. The book comes out in October--check it out at your local independent bookstore or library!

Thanks, ej. Been waiting for a new one
from her for some time. Who's publishing--Dutton, Chase/Adirondack, Brandeis?

Errol Flynn's wife(now in her '80's) still lived in Portie as of 2 years ago. His daughters story was tragic, she became a drug addict and if memory serves me correctly is now passed away. This woulkd be an interesting read.... Thanx.

Publisher is Unbridled Books out of Denver. It's not a name I'm familiar with, I admit. But the proof copy says she teaches at Wellesley, which is only a couple of hours down the road from where I am. Maybe I could get her to do an author appearance at my store...well, not "my" store but the store where I work.

Tiv, do you recommend any of her previous titles in particular?

EJ:Thanks for publisher name/will keep on lookout for. 'The True History of
Paradise', her first book, is arguably
one of the best novels about Jamaica, during the 70s.

Adding both to my Amazon wishlist. Since I've returned from Jamaica I've been obsessed with learning more and reading more about it!
