Flying Fishbone

Husband and I are traveling to Aruba. We've seen some mixed reviews on Flying Fishbone on a few message boards (e.g., food was only "okay&quot and are trying to decide if it's worth the trek. Any thoughts? If you advise not going, any other great sunset restaurants?

I really hope someone replies to this message. My husband and I have the same dilemma. I love the idea of Flying Fishbone - dining right by the water on the beach - but the reviews are mixed. We are staying at the Marriott Ocean Club, and I've heard that their restaurant on the beach, Simply Fish, is comparable to Flying Fishbone without having to make the drive there. Could anyone do a comparision of the two restaurants for me?

Hi,

We were very disappointed in the Flying Fishbone. We had heard that the sunsets were spectacular. The night we were there it was extremely cloudy so no sunset and it was very buggy. Aruba has excellent restaurants and Simply Fish is definitely one of them. We ate there 3 times while in Aruba and the food and service were excellent.

For a spectacular sunset try La Trattoria El Faro Blanco
@ The California Lighthouse. The sunset was incredible and the food and service were excellent.

sorry, i HAVE TO reply to this message. My husband and i ate there in April and it was BY FAR our best and most memorable meal of the trip. We wish we ahd gone back again. Service was great. Atmosphere was specail. Food was fantastic and the ride wasn't that bad, especially if you take your own car! Do it! You will not reget it. It was much much more special than all of the other places we went.

These two replies are the exact reason why I am so confused about Flying Fishbone. People either love it or they hate it. I think we'll give it a chance since we will be renting a car.

Becca, I have to agree with Turbie. Flying Fishbone is well worth the ride out there. You can't blame the restaurant if the sunset isn't great that day, but dining at the water's edge with someone very special is still a memorable experience. I don't know where you are from, but after our Northeast winter I long to dabble my toes in warm salt water while sipping a refreshing beverage!Food and service both excellent. Another romantic spot was Madam Jeanettes. We ate in a kind of enclosed garden and it was lovely. I believe they have a deck outside too. Out of the way but world class food.

Travelbeck,
You really can't go by what Caribbean Rez is saying, because it seems that she didn't like the restaurant because it was cloudy out and she couldn't see the sunset. I think that she shouldn't be judging restaurants because of a problem with the weather. If she heard the weather forecast, maybe she just should have changed the reservation.

To Lucienne78,

You should not assume what you don't know. I am not judging the restaurant by the weather. It was our first wedding anniversary and the restaurant came highly recommended. We were told that this was the perfect romantic place with excellent food and service and incredible sunsets. We had very high expectations. The food and service were ok, far from excellent, I probably should have said that in my original post. And with the bugs and no sunset we were extremely disappointed. I don't judge restaurants by the weather and sunsets! Maybe we hit an off night. For us, there were just too many other fabulous restaurants in Aruba with much better food, views and service.

Not for nothing, but if you're eating outside in Aruba, I'm sure that there will be bugs. And I went to Aruba last September and ate at the Flying Fishbone and thought it was great. Like you said, maybe you should have commented on the food and not the sunset.

As travelbeck stated there are mixed reviews on the restaurant. You liked it, we didn't. And as far as eating outside at other restaurants in Aruba, this restaurant was the only one where we experienced bugs.

We were there in Oct. Stayed at the Ocean Club and were spoiled by our first night's dinner at Simply Fish. The ambience was great and the meal superb. My sea bass was incredible. We went to Flying Fishbone for our anniv and is was OK. The ambience was nice, although I had called months in advance to request a waters edge table and did not receive one. Food was nothing to write home about - Lobster had a funny tasting sauce on it, but hubby's barracuda was good. Honestly, we liked Simply Fish better. It was quieter, MUCH better food, and I could still eat dinner with my toes in the sand.
