Flights from Cancun to Cuba

I would like to find a travel agent that will sell a ticket from Cancun to Havana using a credit card from the U.S.

No one uses US credit cards, it's against the law--

Can't spend US dollars either

So if you want to break the law-pay everything in pesos, exchange pesos but take enough cash

And don't be surprised if caught the fine is around $25,000 so make sure you have enough

Cuba does not accept US credit cards for anything (Visa, MC AmEx would never allow it)

No. That's not true any longer about the credit cards. U.S.-issued MasterCards began working March 1. U.S.-issued Visa cards will begin working June 1 (tomorrow). There's a catch to this though: The bank that issues your card has to agree to lift the restriction too. Some have; others have not. Check with your bank to see if it's set up to work in Cuba. I was there in March as a journalist (all legal). My MC did not work. It was nerve-wracking carrying around all that cash.

American Express and Discover are working on getting their systems in place. Since MC and Visa International have been in Cuba for years, it's been easy for them to make the transition. Amex and Discover have to start from scratch, so it will take longer, but they are working on it.

Your question about buying this ticket is a different issue. A U.S.-based travel agent probably cannot sell it to you.

The buying of plane tickets and where and how you purchase them is in a state of flux. Many people are reporting being able to buy tickets on the Panamanian airline Copa with a connection in Panama City. They've bought the tickets on Copa's U.S. website and bought the entire ticket (US-Panama-Cuba-Panama-US) without having to break the journey into two parts. Other airlines will begin following suit.

Blamona does raise a valid point: Your trip does not conform to U.S. law.

Aeromexico's willing to sell U.S. citizens tickets from Cancun to Havana via its Mexican and European websites, or by phone to its call center. Canada and U.S. websites, no.

They also note that U.S. residents getting on the plane to Cuba will be required to fill out the form certifying that their trip conforms to one of the 12 official categories. Don't know if Copa is doing that.

I used Copa in March from Costa Rica (SJO-PTY-HAV). I had to check on a form saying which of the 12 categories I conformed to (in my case, journalist).

If you look at travel updates for Americans travel to Cuba. You will be able to go directly to the US department of treasury official rules regarding American travel to Cuba.

As of July 2015 American credit and Debit cards will be accepted.

Anyone can pull up the New updates and I suggest going to the official site rather than take advice from folks who May own property and or work for travel agency in the carribean

I came across some advertising on this forum for one of the people warning travelers not to visit.

Please look into the legal updates you may be surprised.
The Cuban people are wonderful and I hope you have a great trip where ever
You go.
